If you have still not managed to luck out and get your hands on the OnePlus One then the 20th January will be your next chance.
OnePlus have apparently sold close to 1 million OnePlus One phones since the Chinese phone maker began last year. Even with those amazing sales numbers, not everyone has managed to buy the “2014 Flagship Killer”, and fans are still waiting for stock to purchase their dream phone.
Gizchina News of the week
Today OnePlus announced that they will be holding an open sale for the OPO on the 20th January where you will be able to buy the phone, and some of the very cool OnePlus accessories without the need of an invite.
Both the 16GB ($299) and 64GB ($349) versions of the phone will be available during the promotion.

I just saw the Nubia Z7 Max going for $340 with international shipping on Aliexpress and there are other options in the $300-$400 range …
It’s nothing special any more. The only thing it still has going for it is CyanogenMod, everything else is about average. The hype they managed to build at launch is all gone. People who wanted to buy it are now looking at other options. For example, at a similar price you can get the IUNI U3, Xiaomi Mi4, Meizu MX4, Nubia Z7 or Honor 6/6+. Top up a bit more and you can get significantly better phones like the Vivo Xshot, Huawei Ascend Mate 7 or Meizu MX4 Pro.
To be fair Vivo xshot seems lower end, ascend mate 7 is rather a mini tablet (doesn’t fit to many pockets) , MX4 pro is good but probably worse than MX4 (higher resolution means worse performance espec since it uses a more underpowered soc than MX4, without adding to the clarity of the screen)
Which means that Oneplus one is a respectable choice, just nothing spectacular. Well if you remove the hype it never was, for about the same money you could have almost equal quality even when it was first released. If you reaaaally into CyanogenMod it’s a good choice. If not there were always better choices out there, me thinks…
It has better camera (clearly), but everything else is subpar. If one doesn’t care much about the camera there are better solutions for less money me thinks…
To be more precise: Low body to screen ratio (less than 70%) yet manages to fit a small*ish* camera, all the while the Soc is the usual drill (slower than the newer SoCs that Meizu employs).
It’s obviously a great phone, just too expensive for those who do are not heavily invested in mobile photography.
Not exactly. It’s got a better display, fantastic sound, an SD card slot (amazing), a great camera, a load of features, comes bundled with high quality earphones, is very sturdy, is comfortable and ergonomic and it has good battery life despite the size of the battery. It’s pretty close to the perfect smartphone for me.
I must admit that I don’t see many difference between modern (relatively high end) IPS displays. Also ergonomics and battery go hand in hand with body – to screen ratio and MaH rating which are both quite below in this phone compared to the competition (showin a bit of a sloppy workmanship? )
I have not used the phone but it doesn’t seem like a standout to me, more like a been there done that (like one plus one, incidentally). But I guess everyone can pick favorites in such a closely contested market as the mid-high end phones’ is.
Well, even if I’m not a fan of OPO ( I had the chance to buy one but then I bought one you listed above) there’s something that makes the OPO attractive. Its price, meaning it’s an official international price, custom fees included (don’t forget you might be charged of custom fees + VAT buying from resellers) and you get warranty (most of the time forget about warranty when you talk about phones bought from resellers).
That your ‘bit more’ unfortuantely is actually closer to ‘twice the price’:
OPO 64GB = 349$
Mate 7 32GB = 715$
Vivo xshot 3GB-32GB= 570$
Meizu MX4 PRO 32Gb = 535$
I live in Malaysia, and I can safely say that the price of a OnePlus One is pretty close to the Vivo Xshot and Huawei Ascend Mate around here.
OPO (white) 16GB – $339-359
Xshot 16GB – $420-430
Ascend Mate 7 – $440-450
It’s still a pretty large difference, but smaller than the difference in your country, which is why it may seem incorrect to you.
You missed the point of the article and of my comment. Like I said, OPO is still interesting if we consider their official price, not reseller. Like the article said, tomorrow you can buy the phone from their online store from 299$.I agree with you that with the reseller price there are other options, in fact I started the comment saying that I got a different phone myself.
I brought up the price of some phones just to remember you that it’s fair to compare the price of OPO with the best version of xshot ( not the one with 2gb ram SD800 to be clear) or if you take the 64gb version of the first then you have to compare it with the 64gb version of the second phone and not the 16gb one.
Does any of those phones even have North American LTE bands so you can use 4G LTE in North America? That was one of the biggest appeals of the OPO for me.
But if I didn’t have my OPO and I still needed to upgrade my phone I would wait for the Zenphone 2 to come out in March.
I have one. There are a few shortcomings as with any phone. I have reseller Chinese version. Had 1-2 lock ups. Screen clicks not talkative a few times.
However this is the best phone I have had. Battery last me 3-4 days. Can flash ROM s if required. I have not bothered. Typos anything Mediatek as a result.
Not bleeding edge now, though that is overrated.
Still a solid phone if you don’t have relibility problems.
Obviously sales are starting to flag so they hope to boost them by ‘allowing’ people to buy without an invite. I think the saying ‘2014 flagship killer’ says it all really as its 2015 and it wasn’t a ‘flagship killer’ last year either.
