WhatsApp launches a Web client, finally!

One of the most popular mobile IM clients finally has a web-based version. Yeah, you heard me right, you can now use WhatsApp right from the desktop from anywhere in the world!

Unfortunately, the Web client doesn’t work in exclusivity from the phone one. In other words, you’ll have to have your phone around to be able to use WhatsApp on the desktop. To make sure you don’t cheat, WhatsApp will require you to scan a QR code on the Web client before you start your session. This makes me believe that it’s going to be a per-session thing, the QR code.

Needless to say, you’ll also have to be on the latest version of the app. At the moment, the Web based client will work with Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone devices. No iOS support yet, unfortunately.

How badly had you been waiting for this? Try out the Web-based WhatsApp client now.

I’ve been using Whatsapp on the desktop for quite a long time now. There’s a plugin for Pidgin that works. It’s not perfect but it work.
