Leaks posted this evening on Weibo claim to show some of the features of the upcoming Meizu m1 mini including the choice of Ubuntu OS.
Weibo posts picked up this evening by Meizu News, hold some interesting surprises for Meizu fans. The images which appear to be from leaked marketing material, list a few of the specifications of the mini Meizu along with price and a choice of operating system.
The details posted in the images include a 5-inch display, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and Chinese retail price of just 799 Yuan. For us, and we imagine you also, the most interesting piece to take away from this is the claim that the Meizu m1 mini will get a choice of 3 operating systems.
Gizchina News of the week
The images claim that Flyme (Meizu’s own Android system), YunOS (a Flyme OS with Alibaba underpinnings) and Ubuntu will be the 3 systems users will have the choice to choose from.
Colour choices are also shown too, but it is the possibility that Ubuntu could finally be making its way to Meizu phones after over a year of waiting which is the most interesting thing here. Only 6 days to find out if these leaks are real or not!
5″ 720p and 13MP seems pretty good for 799 RMB! I just hope the CPU and RAM are still good. My definition of good is a MT6752 paired with 2GB RAM. That would be a bargain at this price! I really hope they don’t choose to bottle neck this phone with a crappy MT quad core and 1GB of RAM.
Yes meizu give it away for free.
This year the crappy one is Qualcomm if you actually care to check perf.

I don’t trust Mediatek’s quad core CPUs, just like I can’t trust Snapdragon’s 400 series parts. I like the sound of the MT6752 or the MT6595 though. Haven’t used a Samsung CPU or a Kirin CPU so can’t compare.
I’m worried the MT6732 will be used here due to the budget. Would you say the MT6732 is comparable to the Snapdragon 600? I wouldn’t really be comfortable in getting something weaker than the Snapdragon 600, even if it’s for my parents.
The 6732 should be a bit faster than SD600, there are some benchmarks for the 6732 on this site ( https://www.gizchina.com/2015/01/10/mediatek-mt6732-benchmarks-elephone-p6000/ ) and SD600 is in lots of devices (like LG G Pad 8.3) so easy to find benchmarks for it.
If it’s equal or faster then I can live with that at this price. I really wish they just took a m1 note and gave it a smaller screen and kept everything else exactly the same and charged 999 RMB for it though. I would be more than happy to buy that.
Have some patience , it’s early for the new chips so many more devices to come soon.
Edit: the Meizu devices might be hard to find at reasonable prices. They are quite small , my guess is that last year they shipped 6.5-7.5 million units (vs Xiaomi 61 or Huawei 75) so it’s unlikely that they took the risk to up production capacity by enough to satisfy demand. They might have doubled it but not much more so it might take a few months before prices for international buyers become reasonable.
I looked at some benchmarks and it seems the MT6732 is actually enough to beat the Snapdragon 600 in most benchmarks and trades blows with the Intel Atom Z3745 so I think even if it has a MT6732 I’ll go for it. I’m surprised a 1.5ghz quad core is speedy enough but Mediatek have proved otherwise!
I was afraid it won’t be 1080p, the 1080p was the biggest advantage over others at that price.
At 720p it depends on the full specs if the price is right or not. At 799CNY even the bulky Asus Pegasus could end up being better with it’s 2GB RAM, MT6732 and lesser cams but with a microSD and more adult colors.
If it’s a good 720p panel then on 5″ it’s not a massive difference. My sister’s Z3 Compact with a 720p panel on a 4.6″ screen looks pretty good. I do have to admit that 1080p on a small panel looks amazing though – I bought my brother a IUNI U2 and the 1080p 4.7″ looks nicer than the 1080p panel on my Mi4. I’ve looked at the Samsung Note 4 and the LG G3 though and they didn’t look noticeably better than my Mi4.
Personally I don’t mind a 720p panel as I would only get this as a backup phone for myself or for someone like my parents or gf who don’t consume full HD content or play graphically intensive games. It should increase battery life so it’s a good tradeoff IMO. Also the lower cost of the 720p panel may be the difference between them being able to put a MT6752 in there or a MT6732. Out of 5″ 1080p + MT6732 + 1GB RAM vs 5″ 720p + MT6752 + 2GB RAM, I know what I’d pick.
Really considering it for my parents that’s why I’m really interested in this one.
I wasn’t expressing an opinion about that point though ,just about how competitive it would be. A1080p screen would be shocking at the price and no big name is close. At 720p there are lots of options and much easier for others to match it.
It’s the difference between the leader of the pack (in specs) and just another decent option.
Ah fair enough. If they manage to get the MT6752 with 2GB RAM in it though they would still be the leader, especially compared with the Redmi 2. 4.7″ 720p there with a crappy snapdragon 410 paired with 1GB RAM would be no challenge to the MT6752 with 2GB RAM. The Redmi 2 is very similar in size to a 5″ phone too (134 x 67.2 x 9.4 mm vs my Mi4’s 139.2 x 68.5 x 8.9 mm).
I own a MiPad and a Mi4 as my main phone and tablet and don’t see how anyone can survive with 1GB RAM nowadays, especially not with MIUI.
Ofc the Redmi 2 is not much but that doesn’t mean other devices aren’t much better than it.
If the Meizu is 720p, it will have plenty of competition at 799.
5″ 720p + MT6752 + 2GB RAM
sound good, only if its GPS has Glonass
