WLtoys is among the better known names on the RC scene around the world. The company started off with quad-copters that resembled the ones from DJI, but soon made a name for itself in the game thanks to some decent offerings.
The latest RC quad-copter to be announced by the company is the WLtoys V66G. The flier comes with a 5.8GHz FPV (first person view) system, which gives you a first person view of the quad-copter on the supplied controller, using the quad-copter’s on-board 2 mega-pixel camera. Don’t expect exceptional quality footage there, but the sensor should be enough to tell what’s in front.
Gizchina News of the week
Besides the FPV function, the V686G comes with headless mode, which means beginners don’t need to worry about orientation; left will be left and right right, regardless of where the head of the quad-copter is pointing to. There’s also a return to home function, but I’m not sure how well that’ll work without a GPS module on board.
Resellers are offering the quad-copter for around US$125, with free shipping from China (if you’re ready to wait weeks). Many believe JJRC to be a sister company of WLtoys, who (coincidentally or not) also announced the JJRC V686 which has essentially the same specifications, but goes for about US$10 less.
