Xiaomi Redmi 2 gets 2GB RAM in latest TENAA approval

One of the big complaints we all had about the Xiaomi Redmi 2 was the lack of RAM, but a new TENAA filing shows that Xiaomi have fixed this issue.

Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi Redmi 2 not so long ago to a mixed reception from fans around the world. The general opinion is that the Redmi 2 is a good phone for the low asking price, but not the successor we were hoping for.

One of the issues was that fact the 699 Yuan phone boasts just 1GB RAM, at a time where most similar phones are starting to see an increase to 2GB RAM.

A recent TENAA approval shows that Xiaomi have taken this in to consideration and will also launch a 2GB RAM model in the near future. The phone will get the same Snapdragon processor and colourful rear shell options as the first Redmi 2, but will likely cost slightly more.

at last, a decent smaller smartphone from a reliable manufacturer. When the price comes down to 150$ (international) I will be getting it for my girlfriend for sure

    I am not from a Xiaomi suppoorted country but I fell that when you buy a smartphone from a manufacturer like Xiaomi, Meizu, Oppo or Jiayu there is less chance of getting a faulty device or the device breaking down over time. Also software is more refined and feature rich. Thats how I see it and, of course, I speak for experience

At least they’re trying to fix their mistakes. Still, it would’ve been a lot better if they had just launched it with 2GB instead fixing it only now.

IMO the Redmi 2 with 2GB RAM, Snapdragon 615 CPU and 2500mAh battery would have been a killer phone worldwide!!!! Anyway, if the released Redmi 2 get 2GB RAM, I will buy one cos I don’t have 350€ to spend on the MI4 16GB version. I really hope that Meizu M1 Mini would have better specs for a good price. A message for manufacturers, please produce mid-range phones with decent specs, design and removable battery in order to allow us to keep our device for at least 2 years! I wish that Jiayu S4 will be released in coming months!

    Thank you for your comment, regarding the Meizu M1 Mini we will be fixed pretty soon about its technical specs. Unfortunately, there is nothing official for the Jiayu S4 and even March might be too optimistic for a release date and availability in the market. Moreover, Jiayu has just launched the S3, I think that at the moment their plans is to make that device a success in the market before putting out another device. I will decide between the new Redmi 2 (2GB RAM) and the Meizu M1 Mini, hope these phones will be available in the market pretty soon.

  I feel you, what a stupid strategy from Xiaomi! They should have released the Redmi 2 initially with 2GB of RAM considering that their MIUI ROM is too voracious in memory resources.

  Xiaomi have no plans to upgrade the CPU, they will use Snapdragon 410 for the Redmi 2.

IMO the Redmi 2 with 2GB RAM, Snapdragon 615 CPU and 2500mAh battery would have been a killer phone worldwide!!!!
