Quite a historical day today for Meizu, with a new phone, smart products and even a version of their Meizu m1 note powered by a Qualcomm chip!
Of all the news that came out of the Meizu “Connected” launch today what most surprised me was the fact that Meizu have teamed up with Qualcomm to launch a version of the Meizu m1 note for China Telecom’s CDMA network.
The regular version of the Meizu m1 note i.e the version that is already on sale and will eventually launch internationally, is powered by a Mediatek MT6572 chipset. The MT6752 is highly regarded by those of us who have tested it and many rate if over Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 chip.
So which Qualcomm chipset will Meizu be using in the China Telecom phone? Yes, you guessed it the octacore Snapdragon 615 chipset with Adreno 405 GPU. From a technical point of view using the 615 means that CDMA users in China will have a less powerful phone, but from a business point of view the news is quite exciting.
Gizchina News of the week
Meizu have never used a Qualcomm processor to date, instead opting for Mediatek or Samsung chips. This cooperation might be the sign of things to come. Is it possible that future Meizu phones will also get the Qualcomm treatment? How about a Meizu MX5 running a Snapdragon 810? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Fast forward 12months later and we shall know
Adreno 405 GPU in the Snapdragon 615 has a higher performance per watt ratio than the Mali T760 GPU in the Mediatek MT6752. The higher clocked Cortex A53 CPUs in the Mediatek MT6752, won’t lead to a noticeably better performance than the slightly lower clocked Cortex A53 CPUs in the Snapdragon 615, due to thermal throttling. Overall the Snapdragon variant should offer better performance than the Mediatek variant.
I want to see the receipt.
I don’t think so, the HTC 820 does not perform better than the MTK6592/T chipset in gaming and it tends to heat up a bit when exposed to heavier games.
mtk mt6752 performs faster than that of snapdragon 615 based on htc desire 820 and 820s. check the web for the source. 🙂
Missed the point. It’s not Snapdragon vs. MediaTek. It’s that Meizu is -for the first time- offering a phone on China Telecom’s EVDO network.

Well it has been more than a month since the original m1 note released but it seems that no stores have them in stock. I ordered one at Aliexpress on Jan 15th and still no certainty when will it be dispatched
