Update: OnePlus releasing their own ROMs named H2 0S and Oxygen OS

After their element teaser, OnePlus today have announced the name of their ROM will be H2 0s. More details.

Pete Lau, founder of OnePlus, has posted on the Chinese OnePlus forum and Weibo that his companies upcoming ROM will be named H2 Os, which explains the Element Chart teaser from yesterday and makes much more sense than a metal rear cover.

Pete Lau goes on to explain the they chose H2 OS as the name for the elements are some of the oldest in history, with Hydrogen being one of the lightest. I suppose this could be a hint that OnePlus’ own H2 OS ROM could be as lightweight and bloatware free as Cyanogen is.

Another reason, Lau expalins, is the matter of trademark and the fact with this name they aren’t likely to run in to leagal issues with competing ROM or OS in the future.

Oxygen OS

While H2 0S appears to be geared towards Chinese users, a seperate verson of the ROM named Oxygen OS will be released for international OnePlus users. More details are promised on Febuary 12th.

  1. They never worked on CyanogenMod, they didn’t have their own ROM.

      Their own OS will be pre-installed. Cyangenmod has partnered with a few other manufacturers in China and India.

Just what we need, another Android ROM … these things are popping up like mushrooms after the rain.
I don’t care much and probably neither do many people that can install whatever ROM they choose to but for those that just use the preinstalled one I really do feel sorry.

  Nah, as long as it’s relatively bug free and without some crazy quirky problem, those kinds of people won’t care as long as it works*.

This is the same shit as their “mother company” is doing. Oppo has a separate rom for the chinese market and international. the chinese one is frequently updated and the international is left behind (oppo find 5 user here).

    I actually just made that comment before seeing yours. Knowing the history of OPPO and OPO that is exactly what it will be. It will be Color OS with a fresh coat of paint.

Oxygen is O2, H2O is “dihydrogen monoxide” or water, H2 is “hydrogen”, marketing people please learn some science.

  Oxygen (O) is atom, O2 (dioxygen) is gas molecule..H (atom) is hydrogen, H2 is hydrogen gas..if not mistaken

Another mistake to add to the long list that OPO has made over the past 12 months. Cyangenmod was one of the biggest selling points of the OPO, it was essentially China’s answer to the Nexus line, flagship specs, mid range price, bloat free OS. It wouldn’t be shocked if this “new” OS is just Color OS re-skinned.

They should have sticked with Cyanogen. The only thing people know about OnePlus One here is that it has “Cyanogen OS” while they have no idea about what it is means.

just give us a blank slate …. let user decide what to do with it. clean & stable.. no bloatware and maximum customization options …… just like slimroms
