Xiaomi has shown keen interest in making it big in the Indian market, where it stepped into only last July. The company’s face and VP Hugo Barra had mentioned about the possibility of manufacturing phones in the country, and plans seems to have progressed since.
According to reports, Xiaomi is now set to manufacture phones in Chennai, India through Inventec. A lot of Xiaomi’s manufacture in China too is outsourced, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that Xiaomi is planning to take the same route in India. If the plan does materialize, Xiaomi’s phone will start being manufactured in India by 2nd or 3rd quarter this year.
Hugo said the following at the Xiaomi Mi 4 launch in India which took place a week back.
Gizchina News of the week
It isn’t clear yet what devices will be manufactured at the Chennai plant, though.
In related news, many publications carried reports of Xiaomi’s intentions of entering the US market this year, which are all most likely false. The following video should tell you more.

Smart move by Xiaomi…sooner than later..India will impose heavy duty tariffs on Chinese imported stuff…India is getting tok dependent on Chinese stuff across the board..and only way to stop this is MAKE IN INDIA..the favorite slogan of Modi.
Xiaomi will be made in India soon 🙂 I guess we can expect prices to be much lower for Indian customers 😀
On the contrary..might be more expensive to manufacture in India because of smaller scales..but it is a compulsion.
