The thin-phone-fad seems like its here to stay, especially as far as Chinese OEMs are concerned. Reason why I’m saying this is in front of you; Gionee (Elife S5.5, S5.1), OPPO (R5) and Vivo (X5Max), three of China’s biggest manufacturers have had a tough 2014 fighting against each other for the crown of the world’s thinnest phone makers.
Gionee seems to have prepped another contender for this battle, which we expect to see this MWC. Considering the rate at which companies are dishing out ‘the world’s thinnest phone’, one can only hope that no other manufacturer beats Gionee with still some time to go for the unveil.
Gizchina News of the week
According to reports, the Gionee Elife S7 (or whatever it is called at launch) will be a mere 4.6mm thick; now that’s certainly thinner than most would feel comfortable holding. Nonetheless, images of the smartphone in the wild seem to have leaked, and are put right after this break for you to see.
Can’t say about the authenticity of these images, but there’s nothing saying that they’re fake. Furthermore, the phone is expected to pack 2GB of RAM and run Android v5.0 Lollipop out of the box, which is certainly something we’d love to see!
What section of the market do you think Gionee’s going to target with this one? Or will it need to create one altogether…
