OPPO Mirror 3 now official in India, but does it have a market?

Another OPPO phone went live in the Indian market earlier today, the Mirror 3. As anyone would guess from the name, OPPO’s going after the selfie-fanatic section of the audience with this one.

To accomplish a decent selfie capturing mechanism, OPPO’s fitted a 5 mega-pixel sensor on the front that has a few tricks up its sleeve. This includes the usual beautify feature that seems to be a hit in OPPO’s home country of China, along with something OPPO calls ‘golden shooting angle design’ and more. On the rear, the 4.7-inch phone has an 8 mega-pixel f/2.0 sensor fitted with a 5P lens and Blue Light Filter.

Other specifications of the phone include the Snapdragon 410 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of on-board storage and a 2000mAh battery. The phone runs Android v4.4 KitKat out of the box, with the usual OPPO ColorOS skin on top.

In a market as price-sensitive as India, the OPPO Mirror 3 certainly isn’t going to be the most popular mid-ranger. It is priced at 16,990 INR (US$275), which is rather steep when compared to other phones with similar specifications. Sure, OPPO designs are something not most other phones in its (specifications) range have, but I have a feeling OPPO will have to re-think its strategy to be able to thrive in emerging markets. OPPO seems to be having the habit of shooting itself in the foot. they do not have a fan base in India and no matter how loyal the fans are an 8 GB ROM/ 1 GB RAM with Snapdragon 410 is not interesting, it is competetive to Xiaomi Redmi 1S or Xiaomi note, but its priced in such a way that one can buy a Xiaomi Redmi and Xiaomi Red mi note BOTH at the price at which it is priced. Stupid idea Oppo, I guess they are oblivious to what is happening around them. It is same for Oppo N1, it is snapdragon 600 with 2 GB rom and 16 GB and they price it at 32K funny as it may seem Xiaomi MI4 with Snapdragon 801 with 3GB RAM and 16 GB ROM and all the goodies is priced at 20K and even the later 64 GB version will be priced at 24K, wonder where the OPPO team gets their pricing from…Blockheads

Oppo is more keen on following the offline route in India. It is trying to establish distribution chains and presence on the ground rather than retailing online, the xiaomi way. They will have to give good margins to distributors and sellers hence competitive price is not an option. will this pay? Offline market is still substantially bigger than online one in India.. so maybe.. even intex sold 1.7 million phones last quarter
