Laste year’s MWC spectacle mightn’t have gone too well for Archos, but that hasn’t deterred the company from coming back with a bang. The France-based consumer electronics vendor will be showing off four new phones at the impending mobile show.
The devices — ranging from 5 inches to 6.3 inches — will all come with MediaTek processors and price tags that read numbers lesser than US$200. This includes the 5-inch 720 Archos 50 Oxygen Plus, which is powered by the MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB ROM. The phone will also have an LTE variant which will go on sale later this year.
Gizchina News of the week
A trio of MediaTek MT6582 powered phones will grace the stage also. As noted by Liliputing, all of the three phones will have a gig of RAM, 8GB of storage, 8 mega-pixel rear cameras, 2 mega-pixel front cameras and 720p IPS display panels, besides the common MT6582 chipset. One would’ve hoped Archos to go with the newer MT6732 chipset, especially since the devices will sell for around the US$150 mark.
The first of the three, the Archos 52 Platinum will have a 5.25-inch display and a 1750mAh battery, while the 59 Xenon will feature a 5.9-inch screen, and a 2500mAh battery. Lastly, the 6.2-inch 62 Xenon will have a 2300mAh battery, and the devices will sell for US$158 US$147 and US$170 respectively.
Are you kidding me? Mt6582? 2300mah for a 6inch device? Archos please go back to sleep.
took the words out my mouth ^^
The specs aren’t great but for phones selling for under $150 they are pretty much the same as the rest of the market.
For that price they are a lot of devices using MTK6732. Its not just about the price. Its not just practical using 2300mah for a 6inch phablet. Giving the fact that MTK6732 is out now, the previous generation MTK6582 should be much cheaper now. So I don’t see anything special about that price giving the spec sheet of these devices.
Never said these phones offer anything special, I wouldn’t buy one that’s for sure. But the specs they offer including the 6582 are pretty standard for phones under $150. The 6732 is still in its infancy, the 6582 is still the standard for budget phones. A price drop will eventually happen but it’s still early.
Quite lying? I can look on any reseller and find dozens of phones for under $150 with a 6582, 720p (or less) and 1 GB of RAM. Not sure what I am lying about,
I’m joking balcobomber come on! No offense was meant, don’t take me seriously.
Game over Archos
They might have thought that MWC was a vintage fair. They probably went dressed with bell-bottoms pants and long sideburns
This is brilliant stuff for the 2013 MWC! Oh, wait…
Honestly, After last year’s epic fail you could have wandered how this company wanted to retaliate from that disastrous moment, but apparently some donkeys do like to hit the same rock twice.
Unless the MTK6592 modelis sub $120, there is absolutely no market for it, and the MTK6582 phones better be sub $80 to even compete in the low end market…
