With MWC starting in only a few days there are a lot of great Chinese and international brands we can look forward to seeing. Of course it is the Chinese tech that we are more concerned about and here are the top Chinese phones we expect to see at MWC.
Big brands such as Gionee, Huawei, Lenovo and Meizu, plus smaller phone makers THL and Ulefone are all planning to show off phones at MWC this year. Here are our top picks to keep an eye on.
Meizu MX4 Ubuntu
Meizu won’t have their own stand at MWC but their partner Canonical will be at the show with the Ubuntu version of the Meizu MX4. Meizu have confirmed that the MX4 will get the Linux OS, but so far have not confirmed if the phone will feature the same hardware as the Flyme OS version. If nothing has changed then the Ubuntu MX4 will get 2GB RAM, MT6595 processor, LTE and that fantastic 21 mega-pixel rear camera from Sony.
Lenovo Vibe Shot
Lenovo are rumoured to have a whole family of new Vibe phones on display at MWC, but it is the camera centric Lenovo Vibe Shot which appeals most to myself. Leaked photos of the phone show an alloy device, with 3 LED flash and 16 mega-pixel rear camera with OIS. A Snapdragon 615 chipset is believed to have made it’s home inside.
Gionee Elife S7
Gionee have chosen MWC to launch their new slim phone. Gionee have said that their thin phone won’t sacrifice hardware and poked fun at the Oppo R5 for it’s lack of 3.5mm headphone jack earlier this year. From TENAA leaks we have learned that the Elife S7 will feature a 5.2-inch display, Mediatek MT6752 processor and measure just 5.5mm thick.
Lenovo Vibe X3
Gizchina News of the week
For their flagship device for 2015, Lenovo are though to be ready to announce the new Lenovo Vibe X3. The phone is believed to have a 5.5-inch display, 20.7 mega-pixel Sony rear camera, finger print scanner on the rear and audio HIFI features.
Huawei P8
We’re not 100% sure what Huawei might launch. Rumours suggest that the P8 might come at a later date, but recently Huawei have made a big fuss around a March 1st launch. The P8 is rumoured to get the latest Kirin octacore chipset, 5.2-inch display and LTE support. It is also suggested that a dual 13 mega-pixel rear camera feature could be part of the package.
Ulefone
Ulefone have confirmed that they will be at MWC and will release a new smartphone which will feature design not dissimilar to the Meizu MX4. A dual LED rear flash and some form of fingerprint scanner are confirmed for the phone. It is likely to run a 64bit Mediatek chipset and boast LTE.
THL 2015
Although we have already received the THL 2015, the company did mention that they would also be at MWC to release the phone publicly. The 2015 is one of the only 5-inch MT6752 phones on the market and comes with 2GB RAM and a rear fingerprint scanner. There is also the possibility of another phone launch in Barcelona.
ZTE Nubia Z9
ZTE will be at MWC, and so could it’s sub brand Nubia. The Nubia Z9 will be the first 2015 launch for Nubia and will replace the Z7 as the flagship ZTE device of the year. From leaked photos the Nubia Z9 looks like it will enjoy better design and a more premium construction of glass and metal.
Top Chinese phones we expect to see at MWC
Those are just a few of the phones which we hope to see during MWC, there will also be a lot more Chinese gadgets on show including wearable and tablets.
