What costs $64 and can be strapped to the back of your cat? That’s right, Xiaomi’s Yi Action Camera that hopes to unsettle GoPro in China.
The Yi is a compact Action camera made by the same partner who created Xiaomi’s Yi home camera and will connect to Xiaomi devices via a dedicated application. For the $64 asking prices Xiaomi have offered some nice features including a 16 mega-pixel Sonly Exmor R camera which can record video at 1080 HD at 60fps.
Gizchina News of the week
Weighing only 72grams the little camera can also be taken to a depth of 40 meters underwater, yet doesn’t appear to come with a protective casing like GoPro’s offerings.
Xiaomi are offering two bundles of the Yi camera staring from 399 Yuan for the camera along, or 499 for the camera and selfie rod. International availability isn’t likely at this time so watch for resellers selling the camera.
Xiaomi stop adding products to my wishlist!! :D:D
Anyone knows something about compatibility to Go Pro accessories??
I can assume they match 100% but just want to make sure.
It all depends on the dimensions of the Xiaomi action cam. Even if the dimensions are not the same, you can count that Chinese companies will make a alternative case and sell it online, just like the many Gopro accesoires.you can see online on many Chinese webshops.
It seems very good! Finaly, what is the price in euro or dollar?
Xiaomi does not sell it outside China, so you basically have to rely on resellers, it is going to cost most likely between 90 and 100 US dollar on third parties websites.
SJCAM must be worried. Very worried.
My thoughts exactly, I have the SJ4000 WiFi edition that I use for Motocross and it’s a fantastic bit if kit which fits all the GoPro mounts too, I wonder how this Xiaomi variant compares…
Hopefully this is going to join the list of the items sold on the soon-opening american market
Great price and I`m sure it will rival GoPro, Xioami always launches quality products.
“16 mega-pixel Sonly Exmor R”
Is it a clone of the real Sony Exmor Chip?!
I’m pretty sure that’s a typo.
so… a bit unclear.. Is the camera waterproof without a housing?
answering my own question here 🙂 To make it waterproof Xiomi are selling a case. Not sure if this is supplied ‘in the box’ or its an optional extra. would be nice to see what comes supplied for the price. The SJ4000wifi may still be a better option..?
Andi Sykes can you please tell me if a 4K or 2.7K version will also be lauched?
Full acessories and the back of the camera is a bit unclear… has display…?
This is oficial link:

Similar SJ camera cost minimum 165 $. Hmmm..
whats an action camera ?
i have never used one and this is only te 3rd time in me life im hearing this word!
It’s a really durable camera that’s light and can be used in many ways, from practical uses like snapping a photo of your family on vacation, to outrageous things like recording yourself swimming with whale sharks, and even silly things like attaching it to your cat. They’re also fantastic when paired with quadcopters.
ohh.. i see. maybe i’ll order a xiaomi one
thanks 🙂
so.. anyone any idea how much the accessories cost? and if we can see them anywhere.
I w onder what they will cost from resellers?
most likely between the 90-110 US dollar range.
Already 84$ by pre-sell http://www.xiaomishop.com/234-original-xiaomi-yi-sports-camera-.html
“This product is no longer in stock”
Awesome news! I sold my SJ4000 hoping to replace it with SJ5000+ but there are so many issues with it, and now suddenly such huge manufacturer as Xiaomi enters the game as an alternative. Hopefully it forces SJCAM to update their SJ line with larger battery and iron out the software bugs so there is actual competition on market.
When are they releasing this?
Not surprised go pro is ridiculously over priced for what it is you are basically paying for the name
