China Unicom, one of China’s mobile service providers, recently announced that they would be releasing a smartphone for only 399 Yuan ($64). At the time we had no idea what the device would look like or what specs it would have, though I expected it to be low-end phone with barely usable specs. Now that the device has been leaked, let’s take a closer look at China Unicom’s super budget device.
The phone has a fairly generic design, with a matte gray rear and some fairly thick bezels. The phone also sports a Beidou logo, revealing China Unicom’s partner in manufacturing the device. Overall, the phone looks extremely generic, though that’s fine considering the low price tag.

It’s the specifications where this device shines. On the front, the phone gets a 5-inch HD display (presumably an IPS unit), and a 2MP front camera. The rear holds the 8MP rear camera and LED flash. On the inside, the phone is powered by a quad core Marvell PXA1908 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and it also has 4G LTE, although we don’t know what bands the phone will support.
For those who don’t know the Marvell PXA1908 chipset, it’s a 64-bit Cortex A53 based processor that clocks to up to 1.2GHz, supports 720p displays and cameras of up to 8MP, which fits the description of the phone. It should offer decent performance just a little behind the MTK6732 chipset.
Overall, the phone looks pretty good for the price. The build is decent looking, the specs aren’t too shabby and the price is incredibly affordable. What do you think? Decent backup phone, or just a waste of space?
