The Meizu m1 note is among the best phones in the sub-$200 category as our review suggests, but it appears as though the device isn’t going to be that affordable in China’s neighbouring market of India.
Meizu only recently gave itself a ninja launch in India, but is yet to make any formal announcements… including those about device. Which is why, I’m a little apprehensive about this listing, but nonetheless: the Meizu m1 note has been listed on domestic Indian shopping portal Snapdeal.com. The device is listed for a hefty 34,999 INR which translates to over US$550.
Gizchina News of the week
The m1 note comes with the powerful MediaTek MT6752 which we also saw on the JiaYu S3, and has a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and a 5 mega-pixel front camera. A non-removable 3140mAh battery powers the m1 note, which should be enough for a day’s worth of usage.
Like mentioned before, please take this listing with a grain of salt, for you never know if it is fake. Meizu should hopefully make a formal announcement around the same; meanwhile, we’ll get in touch with the brand hoping to elicit a response on the same.
After an amazing 13% discount.
The retail price was 39999.
I heard people here yelling at Xiaomi for selling MI4 in India at the same price they sell it in China.
According to these people Xiaomi was supposed to sell those MI4 for less.
In Italy there’s a proverb which translates like this: “God gives bread to people who can’t chew it”.
Instead of feeling lucky to get the same price of China with warranty and support from the manufacturer they have blamed them.
Now I guess they have to put a couple hundred bucks more to get a Meizu
Well…pakistan did just brutally kill and burn to ash a woman’s body on the street because a ‘fortune teller’ FALSELY accused her for burning the Qur’an so…
What does any of that have to do with a company selling phones there? China doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to human rights.
AHAHAHA! … no , you see THATS the dark side. this is a third world , you will see BOTH facets of life here… DOESNT mean Xaomi/Meizu will also suffer the same fate!
you must be a bit delusional. That was
1. An isolated incident. This crap happens in MANY other countries but my country is in bad books because we got politicians who are PAID to keep up propaganda against the country’s honor. E.g , WHOLE PAKISTAN is opposed to Pak Forces aiding Saudi’s fight against yemen , BUT the supremo here is a crony of the sheikh and is sending forces anyways , DESPITE disagreement from Army !
If you ever closely study/observe the political dynamics here , you’ll understand why pakistan is so BADLY denounced internationally. Its basically like highlighting the weakest sheep in the flock to be hunted down by wolves. Im sure the analogy will help you.
2. COMPLETELY unrelated to the Mobile Business. WE LOVE chinese people they have been our best allies since 1948. we EVEN ceded part of our border to them out of goodwill. We are often considered one country due to deep friendship. Infact , its a SHOCK china never considered penetrating our market , since we are its closest and most loyal ally.
3.UNREPRESENTATIVE OF OVERALL COMMUNITY. I know you have never seen me. BUT do i sound like i could basically HURT someone fatally , let alone burn to ashes?
Let me tell you im a liberal. Yes , i have my religion but i dont follow it fanatically. Infact , i HATE extremists. I have had many an argument on Facebook about sectarian and extremist conflict and its repercussions. Most Pakistanis , even if they arent very well versed in education, english or other academic criteria , DONT advocate violence. Oh , if violence is ANYTHING to go by , you should read about the recent bomb blast that took place in a Christian Locality in Pakistan THIS MONTH AND the ACTUAL REACTION of chrisitian community AS COMPARED to Reaction of Shias with regards to COUNTLESS Bomb Blasts on them. This’ll tell you how certain stereotypes are DESIGNED to work against us and keep us in the dark.
Conclusively , all i can say , is that i never EVER intended to post this argument here. BUT , i NEED to clear up the confusion that lies abroad about my country. I , for one , DO NOT advocate violence and welcome all foreigners , regardleess of sect and faith into my firendship. I implore you, to understand that one bad egg doesnt mean the whole batch’s crooked.
Honestly man, you seem to follow the Chinese phone segment so closely why don’t you start importing and selling them in Pakistan instead of always complaining about lack of availability.
Sounds like an opportunity if you ask me.
I’ve met a lot of Africans in Southern China (and HK) and all they do is fly over here, fill up a suitcase or two with used phones and take them back to Africa for resale because they say over there they can resell them for 2x what they bought them for in China.
i visit gizchina dn gizmochina and chinamobilemag EVERY day !
as for your suggestion… well , 😀 i know about this BUT lack of capital :p
In India there’s a motto which translates like this: “God gives stupidity to people who are likely to show it off the most”. First of all, your post is incoherent (and smells of racism) to the point that I’m suspecting English wasn’t your third or even fourth language, or it could be that your ADHD manifests while you write.
I want to write a point-for-point rebuttal, but every time I’m trying to make overall sense of your comment I’m getting confused. Here’s my best effort though:
1. Meizu is a 2nd tier (or 3rd), largely unheard of Chinese manufacturer. Ego hurt? Did you just fall off the chair? Well, it’s not just the case in India, but the world over – Easy to verify with a social experiment, even in Italy. Outside the circles of Chinese smartphone enthusiasts, no one knows anything about them. One+ and Xiaomi have had quite a while now to have made their marks, and these days they’re talked about commonly, while Meizu is the brand new stranger. So figure this, 2nd tier, unheard of Chinese smartphone manufacturer enters the Indian phone market. Good, welcome aboard. We’ll get to the pricing in a bit, hold on.
2. So what was that you wrote about Indian people complaining about Mi4? You judgmental, entitled derailment, do you even live here? Where did you pick up that farcical piece of news from? Some obscure online forum frequented by trolls? Do you even CHECK the MI India page and the comments Indian people write there? Complaints, huh? Ignorant folks like you probably feel that given how India was under colonial rule and are just beginning to step out of tough times, we’re somehow not entitled to opinions, complaints and concerns, and should be gleeful at whatever comes our way – our history disentitles us from critical opinion, right?
Well hear this: The BIGGEST complaint was not related to pricing, but the fact that Xiaomi initially didn’t launch the 64GB version, for which EACH AND EVERYONE I KNEW was willing to pay more? My Facebook feed was flooded with people saying price the damn thing around 23-24k (~2400 CNY) and make it available instead of the 16GB model. Indians love large storage on their phones (who doesn’t), and 32GB basically makes everyone happy, or 4/8/16GB with an SD card slot. However, in this case, people complained that 16GB would be limiting, and everyone wanted to pay more for the better model. Got it?
It’s not us that should feel lucky – it’s these manufacturers who should feel lucky that they get to tap into a market who size is second only to China’s. I’d love to talk about, say, the Italian market potential, but I’ll save you the embarrassment.
3. Finally, we come to pricing:
One+ One: Rs. 21,000 (or a tad bit more for variation, off-site deals)
Huawei Honor 6: Rs. 19,000 (6 Plus: Rs 24,000)
Lenovo Vibe X2: Rs. 17,999
Umi Zero: Rs. 18,000 (To be launched)
Lenovo Vibe Z2: Rs. 31,999
Find 7: Rs. 28,990
Galaxy S5: Rs. 26,000
……and too many to list below the Rs. 15,000 bracket………
Catching the drift? We’re spoilt for choices. Solid, reputed brands, great support (mostly). And I couldn’t list around 20 more (even cheaper, but worthy) options because that massive list on FlipKart scared me. 😛
Now, I know it for a fact that products on Snapdeal, which are out of stock, or are yet to be made available, are almost always showing incredibly wrong prices. I wanted to buy a refrigerator which was out of stock, and during that time the price was almost 60% below the MRP! I was overjoyed, but wishful thinking, lol…. When the stocks were back in, the price was back to normal, only slightly below the rates of physical stores. Same with products pending SKUs – their prices are *usually* wrong.
If that’s the case, then it’s just a matter of time before we see the correct price. However, if the price is what it is, then give me ONE good reason why any Indian, unless they are a diehard Meizu fan (LOL, unicorns!), would opt for this device, instead of going for one of the myriad viable options available?
With around ~9 phones about half the listed Meizu price, each scoring more than 40,000 in AnTuTu, what does Meizu offer that warrants the extra money?
Brand Appeal and Value? Sorry, that’s Samsung, Apple, Nokia, LG territory. Long shot for Meizu.
Fan loyalty? Maybe elsewhere, not *currently* in India. Of course, exceptions are there, and I don’t want to sound smug – Indian mobile users welcome one and all with arms wide open, BUT, fan bases are earned – companies are not entitled to them.
Near ~55,000 / ~66,000 AnTuTu performance? I didn’t think so.
What then? I don’t know.
But I sincerely hope things turn out great for Meizu, as it has for Xiaomi, One+, Huawei and all. Meanwhile, you can please just stick to your country’s business and stop worrying about what Indians are concerned with and how we are dealing with our new Chinese guests.
If it’s any indication, the Chinese manufacturers are pretty darned happy and more of them want to enter the insanely large market – sure it’s a challenge because some folks got to the party early and REALLY knocked the socks off things, but others are catching on.
Good times for India and China – sit and watch, but don’t be all uppity about chewing bread, thankfulness and all……
Nice try, but the vitriol aside, do you have any rational arguments to counter what Amit has said?
I didn’t even bother reading it
Liar. You did, which is what evoked the responses. Lol.
I read the first few words to understand who I was dealing with and that it didn’t worth keep doing it. It’s like when you think you heard someone saying something but then you realize it’s just a dog barking: you don’t keep listening carefully trying to catch some words from a barking dog.
What I find interesting instead is that I’ve never seen any of you guys here in this blog before which makes me think you are all the same person hence my guess about dealing with a toddler seems to be right.
Again, how embarrassing! 🙁
I shouldn’t have even answered to you.
