For Xiaomi’s 5th anniversary the Redmi 2A was released at a slightly lower price, so how does the new phone compare to similar priced Mediatek devices?
In it’s current form the Xioami Redmi 2A has a Leadcore processor with support for TD-LTE only, so there isn’t much use in ordering one for use outside of China just yet. However for the curious here are the benchmarks for that Leadcore chip.
This year we have seen that Mediatek’s 64bit processors are really in a league of their own when compared to similar spec Qualcomm processor, so does Leadcore represent a possible rival? Well based on Antutu alone you would have to say no. The Leadcore powered Xiaomi Redmi 2A manages a score of 23,351 points, where as the Mediatek MT6732 (a similar quad-core with LTE) manages over 30,000 points.
Gizchina News of the week
At $90 (or there abouts) still has great specs and we are sure in actual usage the phone has more than enough power for regular usage, but we also wonder why anyone would buy the 2A when for just 100 Yuan more you can have the Redmi 2 with a Qualcomm chip.
It remains to be seen if Xiaomi will release the 2A outside of China, and as mentioned before the device currently only supports TD-LTE 4G so don’t go ordering one just yet.
You can’t compare this to the latest 64 bit MT chips as this is using A7 cores. This is similar to the MT6582 but this has the bonus of a better GPU so I think it is more than a match for last gen chips but not for the latest ones.
I wouldn’t chance buying it.
Not because of Antutu score (which is not bad) but because we don’t know much yet about it like GPS quality, battery management etc. Right now I would even pick the old MK6589 over this one.
It uses a 1.5ghz Leadcore chip. Not a Mediatek chip.
oh. Sowie. Twas a reply. Carry on.

Yeah right, you have been commenting only about this website and now you’re pretending to be one of their customers.
Typical behavior of scammers.
I’ll make sure to write back to you anytime you comment about this website warning other people here that you are a potential scammer.
Not to mention “Carol” is writing in broken English. One of the first red flags that this is a scam.
I am a huge Xiaomi fan but I would stay far away from this as well. This phone is meant for developing countries which can’t afford a Redmi 2. It will compete with the ultra budget options from Lenovo that dominate many of those markets. It seems like Leadcore/Xiaomi has a long way to go before they catch up with MTK. Kind of like MTK a few years back.
I totally agree with you, but being a fan of Xiaomi as well I’m happy about this new adventure.
And who knows, it might turn out that this SoC is better than what people expect
I like the future of this SOC because eventually we could get something like the Apple A chips. A high end chip that is designed to be used only with Xiaomi products and is optimized for their software/hardware.
