Rumours about a cheaper ‘i’ aka Mi 4i version of the Mi 4 are rife. Today’s price cut of the Mi 4 only adds fuel to the fire, suggesting strongly that the Mi 4 would soon be replaced, perhaps at the first ‘global launch’ event that Xiaomi have planned for later this month.
The smartphone got a price cut worth 2,000 INR (US$32) in India today, bringing the prices down to 17,999 (US$290) for 16GB and 21,999 INR (US$350) for 64GB from the previous 19,999 INR (US$320) and 23,999 INR (US$385) respectively.
Gizchina News of the week
The Mi 4 was first sold exclusively via Flipkart, after which Xiaomi got into a partnership with other online and offline retail channels in India. Thus, the smartphone is now available on Flipkart and The Mobile Store (offline), with competitor e-commerce stores — Snapdeal and Amazon — set to offer the smartphone in the coming days.
The Mi 4 is a wonderful phone with a 5-inch 1080p screen, 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC, 3GB RAM and a 13 mega-pixel camera. The phone has been my daily driver since last August, and a replacement for the phone is hard to find at the moment!

Looks like the Mi5 is close to being announced. Xiaomi always lowers the price of their Mi line when the newer one is announced.
I have used the Mi4 since about September and it is the best phone I have ever used. I normally buy a new phone every 8-12 months but I am not even close to ready to give up my Mi4.
I just hope we get a choice of black with 4G for the Mi5 straight away and not have to wait months because a lot of technology comes out in the phone market in just a few months.
I wouldn’t count on it. Xiaomi’s products have all followed the same path of white being mass produced first and then offering special colors later. I hope instead that alternate back covers (like the wood ones for Mi4) are offered from day 1.
The price was cut first in China ,now they did the same in India and it’s not about any new models, it’s about poor sales and being competitive.
The Note Pro hasn’t even hit retail yet and SD810 is boring so no rush for them to replace the Mi4.
I’m curious about their Q1 2015 results.
I heard Note Pro scheduled to May 6th for preorders. It announced too early.
My guess is 1-2 million units down from Q4 so a mild decline to 15-16mil units. Others have far bigger declines, Huawei shipped 17.5 mil units in Q1 so down hard from Q4 when they shipped 23.5-24.5 million units and Lenovo maybe 17-18 down from 25. LG could be ahead of them all but that would be mostly on inventory inthe channel for the new mid range models.
“it’s about poor sales” The only problem with that is Mi4 was one of the top selling phones in China last year and is one of the most anticipated phones in the Indian market. They could have kept the price as is and still sold millions in India.
Is this actually a price cut? This is the same amount of discount which was offered for 24 hours during their anniversary.
