Is this the first look at a Cheaper OnePlus Model?

Weibo posters are reporting that the above image might be the first look at a new cheaper OnePlus model set for release sometime in the future.

Later today OnePlus will hold an announcement relating to some mystery service or product from the brand. No one is sure what it will be, but there are reports that the company will unveil a low-cost version of their popular OPO.

To partly prove these reports a famous tipster on Weibo has posted a photo of a phone that has the distinct OnePlus look and rumoured to be an entry level phone. In the photo the device has the same metal panel around the main camera and single flash on a white plastic body with power button on the right.

At this point it is hard to tell if this is in fact a budget OnePlus phone or one of the many knock off devices which have been available for the past few months.

If it is a budge OPO then what specifications could it offer? In our opinion OnePlus would likely stick with Qualcomm for a processor and allow for easy development, they could even go for the same 801, but with 2GB RAM instead. The screen could remain 5.5-inch with a HD resolution or possibly a 5-inch FHD. What are your ideas for a possible budget OnePlus device?

They also should lower the price of their One, others have already done it (Mi4, MX Pro, U3…)

Hopefully it will be afordable. The One PlusOne costs twice as much as I can afford to spend on a phone.

I really wish OnePlus will release 2 devices: one ‘low-budget’ (5-inch screen, 2GB/32GB) and one ‘flagship’ (>5.5″ screen, 4/64GB)…

You want 4 GB????? Why would anyone need more than 2 GB of RAM?????
Even 1 GB is enough for most users.

          Well, that is correct.

        Are you kidding or trolling?
Just think about Windows PC’s history… Today, would you say “1GB is enough for most users”?
        Obviously NO:
        a) OS becomes bigger and bigger on every release
        b) programs are demanding more and more memory and storage (coding lazyness and un-efficiency -most probably-, bad memory optimisation/ leakage, it’s most of time muscle over mind…),
        c) multi-tasking, add-ons, widgets, background tasks and services …
        d) more and more graphics and animation to be loaded in memory for fast execution and good user feedback

        So
-> 2GB is the minimum ‘viable’,
-> 3GB is the “current” offer on 2015-high end phones (Nexus6 and al)
        – >4GB RAM is my wish (to come true) for 2015-2016! YES!

It depends on what are you using your phone for. I am using Viber, Tapatalk, e-mail, SMS and calls and 1 GB is more than enough for me.
For now, more than 2 GB is not really needed.
Take it easy with applications and widgets and use only ones that you really have to use.
But yes, more RAM is future-proof.

You are right. 2G is quite enough. And with regards to Apple rolling with 1G, we can say that Google developers really should review the coding of Android.
Ok to make everybody happy: let’s say that we might need 4 G to record slow-mo video in 4 K.

          You can’t compare Apple’s 1G to Android’s 2G, it doesn’t make sense: different OS, different hi-level coding language…

Going by the One’s origins, I think OPPO would have to release a scaled down version of one of their phones for OnePlus to come up with something!
