Following on from yesterday’s news that Elephone would release a flagship phone with 2K display and Windows/Android OS we have more details of that phone, plus 3 other upcoming Elephone devices.
Elephone have come a long way in the few years that we have known the company. We have seen the brand change from a relatively unknown manufacturer, to one of the fastest moving Chinese phone makers to date.
Yesterday we reported that a flagship Elephone phone with 2K display and Intel processor had been spied at a trade show in Hong Kong, after contacting Elephone about the device they revealed more details along with details of 3 more upcoming Elephone phones.
2K Flagship Elephone (Version B)
This is obviously not the final name of this device, but looking at the hardware on offer it is obviously going to be the jewel in the Elephone crown. Specifications for this flagship phone include a quad-core Intel processor, 3GB RAM and a 2K 2560 x 1440 resolution display.
The gold body is there to show that it is the top of the range model, and also distinguish itself as the model offering either Windows 10 or Android 5.0 Lollipop. Other details include a 20 mega-pixel camera, possibly a Sony IMX230, 3800mAh battery and 32GB internal memory. No pricing at this stage, but a release in June is mentioned on the promotional material.
2K Flagship Elephone (Version A)
Version A looks to be basically the same device as the phone mentioned above. It has a 2K display 5.5-inch display, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, Sony 20.7 mega-pixel camera, but only the option to run Android 5.0. The chipset has been switched from an Intel model to a flagship Mediatek MT6795, the same processor we have seen in other flagship Chinese phones. Version A also shows a rear fingerprint scanner, we assume version B will also have the same. A May release date is scheduled for this model of the phone.
Elephone P4000
We reported on the Elephone P4000 a while back, but it comes as no surprise that the phone has yet to go on the market. The selling point of te P4000 is its battery life coming with a large 4800mAh battery, very large in fact for a 5-inch HD phone with 64bit quad-core processor. Elephone will use the Mediatek MT6735 in the P4000 for LTE support, there will be just 1GB RAM, 2 mega-pixel front camera and 13 mega-pixel rear. Expect the Elephone P4000 to launch in May.
Elephone G9
The G9 is the super affordable phone of the bunch. Elephone say that they haven’t decided on the final price for the G9 but expect it to be very low. Specs include Mediatek MT6735, LTE, and 4.5-inch FWVGA display. Two options will be available from a super low-cost 512mb RAM model to a 1GB RAM version. The Elephone G9 should be on sale later this month.
Along with the above 4 phones we should also begin seeing Elephone P7000 reviews soon, and customers who have preordered them can expect to see them in the coming weeks.
What do you think of the upcoming Elephone line up? Any standout models here you would like for yourself?
lol those are some ugly designs, elephone should consider firing their designers if their phones aren’t selling.
You referring to all of them? Cause those version a&b flagships are really pretty.
The one with the fake black bezels? That’s the most offending ones lol.
I think it looks incredible (and I usually hate phones with no bezels), especially compared to Elephone designs of a year ago.
These phones have bezels though, hidden on the ugly black bars. But sure.
Hard to tell if they do or don’t given the pictures we have seen. If they do have them they are very tiny.
As did P7000 with Elephone’s own render, but look where it is today lol.
The P7000 has very small bezels and they look beautiful.
lol okay if you say so.
Just because you think it is ugly doesn’t mean others do too…
I never said they have to, just because someone disagree with you doesn’t mean that they’re telling you to agree with them.
The camera, I hope it has a ‘lip’ so when you put it down, the glass doesn’t touch what you put it on. And use sapphire / crystal glass on the lens please. NEEDS OIS.
Dual boot… if only someone could virtualise and allow to switch between or receive calls on either O.S. at any time )) Gold looks a bit naff in the photo, but its a decent looking phone, like the narrow top/bottom sections. Battery looks useful. Looks much like a P7000 though )
Elephone should give me a price already. My palms are itchy.
Let’s remember that no one has actually pulled of a successfully Android/Win dual boot smartphone..all have been nothing but empty promises…
True, My P3000S came with the promise it would be prepped up for MIUI, but right now the only MIUI port that’s available for this phone is a beta which, judging by the number of bugs that still needs to be squashed, is closer to a nightly alpha than a stable release candidate.
Microsoft are really missing an opportunity here with phone hardware closing up to Low end pc hardware. They should create a phone with high end Intel x86 processor like the new asus padfone 2, with a hybrid Windows OS that is just like Windows Phone on the device, but full desktop when connected to an external display and kb/mouse or a laptop dock (See Motorola Atrix). Call it the Surface Phone and print money
I have an Oppo Find 7 with a 2K screen and a Ulefone Be Pro with a simple HD screen. Placed side by side, most people will chose the Ulefone screen. And the 2K screen uses ressources and battery for nothing. I think I’m not going to buy a 2K screen again.
for me 1080p is the perfect compromise, won’t upgrade to higher resolution before manufacturers start adding larger batteries to their phones, before that 2K is simply not worth it
Maybe 2K is worth it for chinese caracters and young eyes.
The quality of a screen is not only its resolution, but also luminosity, contrast, color saturation, etc. I can’t see the pixels on the HD screen of the Ulefone, and the caracters contours look pretty sharp to me, so FHD would probably not bring any benefit for my eyes.
For me there is no perfect compromise it all depends on the quality of the display used. I know of some 1080p displays that look like crap and some 720p displays that look excellent. If I had my choice I would take a very good 720p display as it can look just as good and uses less resources.
Android/Win10 dual boot? hmm… sounds like an unachievable feat considering that no one has been able to make it work. But heh, we are in for innovations, right?
By the way, is it still going to use the same Atom Z3580 or something higher/lower? Please verify Andi.
If the reports are correct about it having a 20MP camera it will have to be one of the new X7 series of Atom Chips. They are the only ones capable of using a camera above 13mp.
please open 4G bands to USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They won’t offer US LTE bands until one of two things happen:
1. They have an official presence in North America.
2. Demand is great enough in NA that they can justify the expense of the extra antenna.
Stop selling 1gb phones that goes to all manufacturers
There is nothing wrong with 1GB phones if they are prices right, under $100. For many users of smartphones who do nothing more than check Facebook and play simplistic games like Candy Crush, 1GB is enough.
I still use the original Nexus 7 with 1GB of RAM, I run MIUI on it and don’t have any problems. I am also not a power user by any stretch of the imagination. I use it for the basics (watching movies, listening to music, social media etc).
I think we have seen enough upcoming devices from Elephone this week.
yeah it really annoy me cuz we know they won’t be available until a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time…..
They seem to have too few models with 1080p.
720p was midrange last year and this year that’s shifting to1080p but they seem to be lagging a bit behind on that.
Just y-day noticed some stats with screen sizes of phones sold in China in Q1.
720p – 36%
1080p 24%
854x 480p -10%
1334×750 – 9%
800x480p – 7%
others 13%
720p is losing share and soon enough 1080p should take the lead in 1-2 quarters.
Elephone is a company that wants to maximize profits and minimize costs, that is why they mainly use 720p displays. They are cheaper. I saw a study recently published in a tech journal in which they surveyed random people at a trade show, 8 out of 10 people couldn’t tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on screens under 6 inches.
Personally I don’t mind 720p, especially on 5 inch phones. It uses less battery and there are some 720p displays which are excellent quality.
“The gold body is there to show that it is the top of the range model,
and also distinguish itself as the model offering either Windows 10 or
Android 5.0 Lollipop.”
So does this come with one OS or the other or is it dual boot?
From the start they lie about the battery, no way it will come with 3800 mAh, but since they will squeeze a 3000-3200 mAh max it’s ok to put another 600-800 mAh of lies in there!
