Siswoo came out of nowhere to produce some interesting devices this year. The Cooper i7, Monster R8, and now the Darkmoon R9; the lineup only seems to be getting interesting with each new addition.
As the title of this report says, the Darkmoon R9 is in fact a dual-screen display… with one of the two displays being of e-ink nature, akin to the Yotaphone series. In fact, the R9 does look a lot like the Yotaphone offerings also.
What’s good about the R9 is that the phone isn’t just about the rear e-ink display, which by the way is a 5-inch 960 x 540 pixel unit. The phone also has a decent set of specifications, lead by the awesome MediaTek MT6752 64-bit octa-core processor. There also happens to be 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM at the disposal of the R9 to really make sure that the e-ink display won’t be the only thing potential buyers look at.
Gizchina News of the week
The main front display is a 5.5-inch panel with FHD resolution. There seem to be some interesting additions in the device, such as wireless charging compatibility (Qi standard) and NFC (not sure why). Apart from that, based on what I read on siswoor9.com (I’m not sure if it’s the official website), the phone seems to be in the pre-production phase for now.
Regardless, the Siswoo R9 does look like it could be a kickass addition to the growing list of interesting Chinese phones… don’t you think?

One of the rare times I haven’t heard about a device from Asia. Somehow this one completely slipped by me.
kickass
I first heard about this in mid March, and was very interested. Figured it was out of my price range having seen somewhere pre sale for $300 +. I still like the idea. In fact I had discussed the idea on the Elephone forum. I also thought about the possibility of combining the two screens so that the e-ink one overlaid the Lcd and could be viewed all the time the Lcd wasn’t active. Unfortunately it seems Apple already have a patent on that!
