Elephone confirm new supplier, all P7000 will ship with IMX214

elephone p7000

Elephone have updated news about their camera situation confirming that all Elephone P7000 will ship with IMX214.

A few days ago we reported that Elephone was having an issue with its supplier of rear camera sensors, meaning that they were looking to switch the IMX214 to the IMX135 on the first batch of phones. Fans took the news in different ways with some upset, and others happy with Elephone’s honesty.

Well today the previous news is void as Elephone have updated us about the situation. In a post on their official site, Elephone say that they have now found another supplier of IMX214 cameras and that all P7000 phones will ship with the higher specification camera.

The Elephone P7000 is currently up for reservation at a special price of only $159.99, a bargain price for a phone with 3GB RAM, MT6752, LTE and 5.5-inch FHD display.

Andi! May be you can find out about colors also? The presentation shows it is gray, but in some videos it is shown as black, what is real color?

I’ve seen grey, black and gold, not sure which are being offered though

Grey as silver, or closer to black (as it is in the official promo video)?

How do they make profit from the presale price of $159, when the actual price is $229?

    • Xalis
      April 29, 2015

Hype, few people will get their p7000 at $159 and the rest will end up paying $229 since they want to be part of the party.

Not everyone who registers will get the phone for $159. The initial reservation is for a chance to buy it at that price. Selling at $159 is probably close to cost but they don’t care because its about word of mouth sales. They are hoping people who do get it for that price will love the phone and tell their friends about it. The more people that are hyping the phone on the internet the better sales will be. This is how Xiaomi grew to being the biggest in China. Flash sales and hype.

Wonder if this new supplier sells real IMX214 or that they end up discovering the sensor is actually another after customer buy the phone. If Elephone is sincere about this, they should offer a money back guarantee if P7000 is later found to have used a different sensor instead of Sony IMX214.

Better late than never? Actually they’ve ripped a lot customers already, and they still doing it. just hype about p7000 forced them to do that “change”.
And what about p3000s-6752, which dosn’t have a sony sensor like advertised? what about phones with ripped of nfc support?

Yes people praise their honesty because they very easily could have done what they did in the past and said nothing about the camera issue. Are we supposed to bash them for being honest about the camera issue?

        • Riccardo Benzoni
          May 4, 2015

no, now they are to praise because (it seems) they are mantaining their promise and ship all p7000 with the announced camera, but replacing the sensor because you can’t find the one you promised is cheap, not honest. Honest would have been something like: “listen, there is a huge shortage of sensors, there are three options for you: 1) wait until we have the stock again 2) take a full refund and hasta la vista 3) we are making another model with older sensor at a slightly reduced price, if you want it we give you a discount or a shi*load of accessories, but only if you really want it and can accept the change, not announcing it in our page and sell it to you anyway if you don’t notice”

If Elephone wanted to screw you they wouldn’t have announced that on the very first day of their big sale, weeks before the phone actually shipped. They announced it at a time before many people even ordered the phone. It has nothing to do with them not finding it cheap, it has to do with there being massive shortages of the IMX 214, guess you missed this article:

            https://www.gizchina.com/2015/05/02/sony-reporting-huge-shortage-of-imx214-camera-units

where did I say they were changing the sensor because it was expansive and they wanted to save money? As in previous discussions it seems you only understand what you want to, cheap is their behaviour, before that sentence I stated they couldn’t find the one they wanted to include (obviously regarding the shortage of IMX214 inside the arcticle, which I had read before you linked it to me).

              May 5, 2015

“but replacing the sensor because you can’t find the one you promised is cheap, not honest” You said it right here…

If they can’t find the one they want to include what are they supposed to do? None of your options above are really practical because the phone hasn’t shipped to a single customer yet. Many people haven’t even paid yet because they are waiting to see if they get an ELE code. All of this is just sour grapes at this point because Elephone is using the sensor they promised. Your just looking for a reason to bash them when none exists. You have a hatred for Elephone its obvious, we all have that one company (mine is Doogee).

I could care less to hate a brand, and again “cheap” is used to indicate the behaviour, try using a vocabulary from english to your language and find all the meanings of the word, maybe you will finally understand what I wanted to say.
And I also said that now they are (really) to praise because they decided to ship them all with promised sensors, so stop being an annoying fanboy like you were with doogee before yours broke and showed you how cr**py they are.

As for me I have only been a fan boy of two brands: Xioami and THL. I liked my Doogee until about two months into when I started running into problems, but I was never a fan boy of them and I have never even owned an Elephone. In fact I used to call out Elephone for their poor quality. But nice try buddy.

I don’t spend all time on Elephone’s articles, but when I read such enlightned comments like yours, I can’t avoid to reply.
Also, didn’t you (by accident) order one of these p7000? Ah, no, actually you ordered two, long gone are the days you used to call out Elephone for their poor quality, everything is forgotten now, yesterday’s mistakes with p3000s and p6000 are long gone in the past… A new hero is born from the ashes, now we have an Elefanboy! 😀 nice try!

              May 5, 2015

I did order two and it was no accident whatsoever, and I plan to use one of them and test it out and give the other to a coworker who loves Elephones. I can’t remember hearing any problems with the P6000, everyone I know who has one and every review I have read on it says it is a great phone for the money. Elephone did at one time have some problems but the last few phones I have seen from them and used in real life have all been very good. I am intrigued to own my first Elephone and if it ends up not living up to the hype I will be the first one to call them out.

P6000 is a very good phone actually, but was advertised with compass and it didn’t have it. it may seem a stupid feature, but for some people it’s actually very important for work, I’ve seen a couple of these returned only for this lack.

Elephones website doesn’t mention anything about a compass. But even so If a compass was that important for your work, why are you relying on a smartphone compass which are no where near as reliable as a professional compass?

            • Riccardo Benzoni

the website doesn’t mention anything about the compass because they are so professional that they removed it from the descriptions after the first complains of “not working compass”. You can see some of them in elephone’s forum, like this one http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-1685-1-1.html
why are you asking me about why a compass is important? I don’t need it, but this doesn’t mean is useless for other people, ask to the one which had to return the phone.

Isn’t it supposed that Sony is the only supplier of Imx214 sensor? How come elephone manage sony’s product from other supplier? Btw elephone could use the Sony imx 234 sensor, which is 16MP and has good supply. I don’t know if mtk6752 supports 16MP or not.

    • balcobomber25
      April 30, 2015

A lot of electronics companies buy all their parts from a middle man who buys it directly from the manufacturer of said components.

There is no IMX 234, the 16 MP is the IMX 240. The 240 would have cost Elephone too much and so far has only been used by Samsung phones. The 135 was a logical choice, it is nearly the same exact sensor as the 214, other than 4K recording the differences are minor.

A lot of electronics companies buy all their parts from a middle man who buys it directly from the manufacturer of said components.

There is no IMX 234, the 16 MP is the IMX 240. The 240 would have cost Elephone too much and so far has only been used by Samsung phones. The 135 was a logical choice, it is nearly the same exact sensor as the 214, other than 4K recording the differences are minor.

actually Nubia Z9 Mini seems to have the IMX 234 http://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/c5b5335a

      Is it a mistake?

Their is nothing on Sony’s website about the 234 but I have seen it in press releases. Sony only has the 214, 230 and 240 listed which is interesting.

You are totally right, I checked it on wikipedia too…but I don’t really know why they’re still talking about that sensor, even on the official Nubia page http://www.nubia.cn/nubiaz9mini?type=4

Could just be a slightly toned down version of the IMX 240.

Maybe this statement from elephone.hk can help for orientation:

“Elephone don’t have any Official B2C online shop

      Published: 2015-04-30 Views: 54

      Statement:

As lots of customers ask us if http://www.elephone.cc is our official B2C online shop. Here we make a statement.

Elephone only do B2B business. All online shops on our official website
are certified and authorized agents, Elephone.cc is included for sure,
but it’s not Official online shop. It has the equal status with other
agents. Thanks for your support of Elephone.

Others have reported shops charging the $70 for shipping. 1949 deal offers free shipping and I know a few others reported other sites that did as well.
