Xiaomi Malaysia today finally announced the availability of the ex-flagship, i.e., the Mi 4 for the Malaysian market.
The Mi 4 hasn’t been Xiaomi’s most successful phone. In Malaysia, the phone will get to buyers via a rather unexpected channel — via a local distributor in Mont Asia. If you have your hopes high, you’d be disappointed to know that the Mi 4 sold in Malaysia will have no 4G LTE capabilities… and along with that, have a price tag of RM 1,199 (US$333), making it one among the more expensive phones from the Far East being sold in the country.
Having said that, I’d also like to mention that the Mi 4 is a mighty fine phone; the metal chassis and the camera happen to be two of its highest points. The phone might however bog down to other devices like the OnePlus One, etc. in Malaysia.
Gizchina News of the week
The Mi 4 has a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 5-inch 1080p display. To find out more, you may want to read our review… meanwhile, if you’re looking to go for a 5-inch phone this year, the upcoming Mi 4i might be an option worth considering.

I have used the Mi4 for over 6 months now the 801 doesn’t get any hotter than the 800 did…
Xiaomi
Given the mi4-i has a better camera I dont really see the point in this one now.
Yea they are a few months too late, given the choice between a Mi4 (which I own) and a Mi4i today I would choose the Mi4i because its cheaper and offers comparable performance.
About the same spec as the out dated Gionee E7 (with 800vs 801 and 5.5″ display). The Gionee is half the price of Mi4
There is one major factor that separates the E7 from the Mi4, one that is often overlooked in the specs sheets. The software. Gionee’s Amigo OS is one of the worst versions of Android available and Gionee is very very slow with updates, Kit Kat is just coming in June. That is something that has to be considered when comparing the two.
Personally if given the choice today I would skip both and buy the Mi4i for a few dollars more than the E7.
balcobomber25, thanks. I am aware that Amigo OS is not as good compared to Mui. I have used Amigo for a while and I am used to it now, so its OK. KK is already awailable on OTA. Lollipop is promised for this month -May 2015!
With how long it took them to update to Kit Kat I wouldn;t hold my breath for a Lollipop update. May of 2016 is more like it. I actually like Gionee phones but historically they have been incredibly slow with updates.
@balcobomber25:disqus can you please recommend me a good phone under $200 with good camera and battery, that i can buy in india? Please
If you live in India try to get the Xiaomi Mi4i I have been hearing excellent reviews of that. If you don’t like Xiaomi the Jaiyu S3 is the gold standard of phones around $200. If you want one of the best camera’s available the Gionee E7 is around $180.
No problem. Keep in mind what I think is a good phone and you think might be completely different as we all have different needs and likes. Start out by reading through some of the reviews here, pay attention to the comments too as most of us have used the phone or used something from that brand and will offer insight.
If you can get on Youtube watch some reviews from the following users: S7yler, C4ETech and Colonel Zap they all review Chinese phones in detail. S7yler and Zap focus almost entirely on phones that cost around $200, C4ETech is based in India and gives good insight on the Indian phone market. Let me know what you end up getting :).
