Exclusive: Elephone goes for style with the alloy and glass Elephone S2 and S2 Plus

Elephone s2

Elephone are adding a little style to their collection with the launch of the thin Elephone S2 with dual glass design.

The Elephone S2 will come in two sizes, the basic 5-inch Elephone S2, and larger 5.5-inch Elephone S2 Plus. The elegant design in the photos shows a dual glass design with interesting pattern on the rear and what appears to be an alloy chassis visible on all four edges.

Our Elephone source has only confirmed partial specifications for the devices and confirms more details will be made available soon. From what we have been told it sounds as though both versions of the Elephone S2 will come with 2GB RAM and 64bit quad-core MT6735 chipset and 4G LTE. The smaller 5-inch version will get a more affordable 720 x 1280 HD display and 2100mAh battery while the 5.5-inch model will receive a 1920 x 1080 FHD panel and larger 2600mAh battery.

The images also seem to show a 2.5D glass display on the front, micro USB and a dual LED flash on the back. The design is similar to the latest Nubia Z9 and upcoming Vivo X5Pro models.

A release date and pricing haven’t been announced, but we will post more details as soon as we learn them.

What’s with the small battery on these phones?

One factor is they appear to be very thin based on the photos, with phones this thin battery almost always is the first thing that suffers.

Yep, and then they suffer from heat issues too…

I thought that the MT6735 does not support FHD. How come the S2+ will have FHD screen if it will spot that SoC?

The MT6735 standar version can handle FHD, only the M and P versions can’t handle FHD.

They are making to many low end phones now. They should put more Time on quality instead. Design is great. But battery life and poor audio on 3.5mm will still be a issue. Can maxxaudio mtk be installed on all mtk devices? Will it help to improve audio?

They should really cut down on the pace of their releases. Spend some of that R&D money polishing up their software. Their whole CM imitative is great but one cannot be certain if CM would come out for a phone even though they say it would. Lastly, by releasing phones so quickly it makes owners wary that their phone will be obsolete soon. Case in point: The P7000 isn’t even out for sale yet but they are talking about a new flagship to be released in May (The MTK6795 4GB RAM one)

The 6795 will be a interesting device. I already ordered p7000 and p3000s 64. P3000s do have some quality issues with camera flash. And it seems they put different components in phones of same model. Keep expecting and be suprised hehe. Downside of p7000 is design on screen boarder. But the prices makes me still fall for it.

This is why I will never buy from this brand: Seems like they release a phone every 2 weeks. How can you focus on the support, user experience, quality when you are busy photoshoping the phone of next week?
Even Samsung who got better and bigger structures, don’ t do it.

Based on MTK’s production schedule June is the likely month you will see 6795 devices announced. Maybe even end of this month.

    elephone P7000 pre-sale event cheating…..

Log-in ontime, got queueing more than 1 hour is still queueing until now!?
Is it a fraudulent pre-sale event? Or just a misleading pre-sale promotion?

  10. May 11, 2015

The design looks upscale, but the specs are a bit…”downscale “.
