The OnePlus-Cyanogen relationship was marred back in December last year when Cyanogen decided to team up with another Indian vendor, Micromax. Back then, it was announced by the Delhi High Court that the OnePlus One wouldn’t get Cyanogen OS OTAs, but the decision was later overturned while the case was still going on.
We finally have a verdict now, and it is in favour of OnePlus One users if not anyone else. It has been announced that OnePlus has been vindicated of all trials, and that the users of the One in India would receive OTA updates just like their international counterparts.
“OnePlus remains vindicated of the recent trials and tribulations that has surrounded the company due to legal tussle with Micromax over exclusivity on CyanogenOS. We are happy to confirm that all ‘OnePlus One’ users in India will continue to receive OTA updates from Cyanogen in-line with our users in markets around of the world,” added Vikas Agarwal, India GM, OnePlus.
An interesting addition in the press release was that the cases had been withdrawn through ‘mutual consent’. We wonder what would’ve made Micromax – Cyanogen – OnePlus settle on common ground.
Nonetheless, it is great news, and we hope no fiasco like this happens with any budding smartphone/software maker in the future!
