It’s difficult to be a new phone maker in today’s market, but Chinese brand Oukitel think they have what it takes and will kick off their international launch with the mid-range Oukitel U8.
At $139.99 the Oukitel U8 has fierce competition from the likes of Elephone, UMi and others, but there are some very neat features in the U8 which budget phone buyers will appreciate.
First up, Oukitel say the U8 will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box! This is great news and much more convenient that having to wait for OTA updates that may never appear.
Another interesting features is support for up to 128GB SD cards. With just 16GB internal memory this is excellent news for music and movie fans.
The rest of the hardware is all rather good for the money too. A 64bit quad-core MT6735 chipset offers native LTE, there will be 2GB RAM, a 5.5-inch 2.5D display with 1280 x 720 resolution and the cameras are a 13 mega-pixel rear and 5 mega-pixel front (although we imagine these are interpolated figures).
Those of you interested in the U8 will want to check out the official Oukitel website. The first sales of the Oukitel U8 will begin on 15th May.
Looks like a great phone, it has good specs for a very good price. Will wait for some reviews, hopefully here at gizchina? If this phone has a decent camera (at least similar in quality to the Jiayu S3) then I’ll seriously consider this phone.
This is definitely one of the better looking phones out there. If they can do a high end phone with a similar good price could help shake things up a bit. Nice to see lollipop 5.1 instead of 5.0.1, if a start up can manage it then why can’t the more established brands?
