Meizu MX5 render has no bezel and no visible fingerprint reader

meizu mx5

Recently we posted news that Meizu could launch a second generation Meizu Meilan Note and new MX5 in just a few months, following up that story are a couple of renders of said flagship.

Meizu only released the MX4 in September, and many might think it is a little early in the products lifecycle for a replacement to be launched, but that is exactly what the rumours are suggesting.

Apparently a flagship Meizu MX5 is going to launch (rumour) on June 30th after a Meizu M2 Note launch on the 2nd of June. Both of these new phones will get a metal body, with the Meizu MX5 boasting a borderless design.

Looking at the images we can see the classic โ€œMeizu Shapeโ€ and see that the design even retains the Meizu โ€œhaloโ€ home button. In fact the Halo could get a fingerprint scanner hidden beneath as an update to the physical button arrangement on the Meizu MX4 Pro.

In the past 6 months Meizu have released 4 phones ranging from the Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro available around the globe to the M1 note and M1 which remain China only models for now. Is it really time to see replacements for these phones?

The problem i have with “bezel-less” phones is they still have the top and bottom and it makes them look even thicker. To me this is just ugly. I prefer some bezel on my phone.

    1) THIS IS AWESOME! ? I knew it was only a matter of time before a company could hide the fingerprint scanner beneath the screen, or in this case, beneath the home button. NO MORE CLUNKY CLICKY MOVING-PARTS PRONE-TO-BREAKING PHYSICAL HOME BUTTONS. #innovation #chinesesmartphones (BUT I do like the Ulefone Be Touch despite the less-than-fhd display and puny battery.)

    2) AWAY WITH BEZELS! ? In my opinion, bezels serve no purpose anymore. Or did they ever? Protection??? I dropped my old-school UMI Cross with 6.44″ FHD display and quite thick bezels. I dropped it at the luggage check-in at the airport with a direct landing on its….(drum roll please) SIDE BEZEL! The result? Cracked OGS digitizer and therefore no more touch response. RIP my UMI Cross. So much for #protection

P.S. Any reasonable software feature can prevent random side bezel (or no bezel) touches from registering and possibly interfering with daily use. COUCH! AHEM! #ipad IF MY 3 YEAR OLD INFANT already knows how to use a Samsung Galaxy Note, anyone reading this should be able to adjust to a bezel-less phone in 10 seconds or less.

“I knew it was only a matter of time before a company could hide the fingerprint scanner beneath the screen,” Your assuming that this phone actually has a fingerprint sensor or that these images are even real.

Yes sir. You are correct. ?

But if this is true, and this type of phone is in fact real, then this is another great step ahead for Chinese smartphone tech. ?

        And if not…. #bummer?

It could be real or these could be very early renders. I take leaks with a grain of salt, I have seen to many (even from trusted sourced like Mobiledad) turn out to be false.

“bezels serve no purpose anymore” ???? You are living in the future or you are really optimistic about the progress made in the technologies of glazing (excepted Safir glass)…that are pretty much on stand-by just like the batteries.

So far we did not see any scratch test of any bezels-less phone.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Meizu are planning to release the MX5 so soon. The Chinese market is moving so quickly at the moment and with Mediatek investing in them I’m sure they want to get their SoC’s in all their phones. The Helio X10 could go into the MX5 and the Helio X20 into the MX5 pro at a later date. With the MX4 and MX4 pro dropping in price I’m sure they are keen to get a new model to market to maximise their profit margin.

Regarding the bezels, I do like the bezel-less idea in principal but until they get rid of the top and bottom bezels I think it looks ‘wrong’, especially in white!

I feel the left and right bezels on the MX4 is already thin enough. When there is no bezel it just looks ugly as it makes the top and bottom look really thick as balcobomber says. I think 2-3mm side bezels is fine, if they can minimise the top bezel so that the camera, speaker, proximity sensor and everything else is in 1 row, taking only around 8mm, then it would be pretty nice. In my brother’s ZTE Nubia Z5S the top bezel is already thin and the speaker isnt even in the same row yet still manages to take only around that sort of thickness so it should be done pretty easily. Then if they can reduce the bottom bezel to around 8mm too it’d look really nice.

If there is really a stealth fingerprint sensor then that would be awesome too, I imagine that would be a bit harder to implement though due to the nature of how a fingerprint sensor works.

What I hope they don’t do is copy the other companies with curved 2.5D Or 3D glass screens as this makes obtaining and manufacturing a glass screen protector impossible. Now that I think about it though, a stealth fingerprint sensor and glass screen protector probably wouldn’t work well would it?

Surprise most companies didn’t copy the LG g3 more. It had perfect bezel to body ratio.

No bezel and it looks like a remote control.

The MX4 looked great on paper, but then it was “bleh.”

The biggest letdown for me was the camera. It sounded promising, but it sucked.

So I am not holding my breath.

I fear for the bezeless design too as if it falls I kiss it good buy>
But they should have added stereo speakers in the remaining bezels just like the HTC M8. It would then make sense I think.

I like how it looks, the problem I have with “bezel-less” phones are that they never turn out to be trully bezel -less phones like happened with the LETV devices ) this pics are photoshop, we saw already too many examples before… And about bezel protection, I don’t know, you guys talk like you can throw your “thick-bezels” phones against floor and the screen will not break ))) this is just unrealistic!
