A large battery Vivo has been spotted over at TENAA but it is not your usual bulky device but something much thinner!
Vivo are known for thinking outside of the box and many of their launches are the most anticipated of all Chinese smartphones. Currently we are waiting for the release of the Vivo X5Pro, but from TENAA documents the release could be followed by the annoucment of the Vivo X5Max S.
The Vivo X5Max S has already recevied its network approval for sale in China, and thanks to the government body that it TENAA we know a few important details about.
With a 5.5-inch 1080 display and octacore MT6752 the phone is on par with Chinese flagships from other brands. There is only 2GB RAM rather than 3GB that we have started to see, but the phone does offer room for a 128GB SD card, 7.29mm body and huge 4150mAh battery.
According to insiders Vivo will launch the Vivo X5Max S tomorrow (13th May) however with only TD-LTE support listed on the specs this looks to be a China only exclusive.
No doubt this is gonna painfully expensive, already seen a few pre sales in excess of $650.
Because they don’t sell many phones in the USA. It’s not as simple as adjusting the software to use more bands. They have add extra radios (aka antenna) to pick up the differing frequencies. The cost to add those radios into the thousands of phones they produce doesn’t equate to the amount of sales in the USA.
The other problem is North America (for the most part) uses completely different 4G bands than the rest of the world. Most of the world uses either 1, 3, 7 (FDD) or 40 (TDD). Until either North America adopts the “world” bands listed above or these companies have an official presence in the USA (or strong sales) it will be hit or miss with 4G bands.
You should copy and paste this answer. I’ve noticed you have to write it from scratch at least once a week 🙂
unfortunately, for me, you are correct. and NO WAY will the us carriers switch to world bands. they like their “arrangement” with Apple and Samsung too much to mess with that. my only hope is for strong sales in the US for these chinese companies. and that won’t happen until they offer phones that provide 4G service here. bit of the chicken or the egg problem. I think i’ll have to wait until the competition is too fierce in the non-US markets, forcing someone to try their luck in the US
Blu is starting to make headway in the US offering several Gionee models and getting good reviews. Alcatel is another one and with the acquisition of Motorola you will probably start to see Lenovo models there as well. Companies like Xiaomi can only ignore the US for so long, eventually they have to sell there if they want to continue to grow. Hope is not completely lost.
They don’t sell in the USA because apple or whoever owns patents will sue them 24/7,why xiaomi dint enter USA yet? Because they are settling royalties and whatnot
Xiaomi didnt enter USA yet because it is a 5 year old company that isn’t nearly ready for that big of a financial commitment. It has nothing to do with patents. If Apple was that concerned there would already be lawsuits in several countries in which they both operate.
How many other Chinese brands do you see being officially sold in the US? It’s not so much financial as it is branding, marketing and guaging how your brand/product will be received.
This issue or barrier to entry is not limited to Xiaomi but in fact most Chinese companies wanting to enter the US market.
You have to understand you people here are in the know and frequent this website for all your china-phone news but your average American does not know what Xiaomi is or what they make or even how to correctly pronounce their name for that matter.
Branding, marketing and public reception all cost money. That’s specifically what I meant by the money involved. It’s not as simple as just setting up shop and selling your devices. The US is very brand conscious and it takes aggressive marketing, sponsorship and advertising to sell products and attract a fanbase in the US. Xiaomi isn’t ready for that kind of commitment yet.
As for brands being officially sold there aren’t many but there are a few most of them using a different name:
Alcatel (TCL)
Blu (Gionee)
Motorola (Lenovo)
ZTE
Nose hair pincers that are ready……
This is how you do a thin phone.
I prefer how Gionee does thin phones, to me the Vivo’s just don’t look that good.
Let me clarify the Vivo thin phones don’t look good. I like the looks of their other phones like Xshot, they are simply yet sophisticated.
It looks like just about every other phone Vivo has released in the last year.
Really is it just me or does anyone else who goes into a Vivo store have a tough time differentiating between the models? — because from the front (which they’re displayed) they really all look the same, you always got to read the tent card beside the phone or look at the sides/profile of the phone to figure out which Vivo phone it is.
