Yu Yuphoria with 2GB RAM, LTE, Cyanogen OS 12 for $108!

Micromax subsidiary Yu unveiled its anticipated Yuphoria smartphone today in New Delhi. The Yuphoria is only the second ever device from Yu.

It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit processor, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE connectivity and an 8 mega-pixel rear / 5 mega-pixel front camera department. It doesn’t take a market analyst to tell what phone Yu is going after with the Yuphoria — the Xiaomi Redmi 2.

The 5-inch display on the phone will have a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, coated in Gorilla Glass 3. Storage wise, there’ll be 16GB on-board ROM.

The Yuphoria has a 2230mAh battery that is compatible with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge. The phone will come in two color variants — Buffed Steel and Champagne Gold. It’ll run Cyanogen OS 12 right out of the box (which will also include Truecaller integration).

There’s not a lot going for the Yuphoria in terms of design, but at just over US$100 (6,999 INR in India), you can’t expect a lot from a device… I think. This also makes the Yuphoria the most affordable Cyanogen OS powered phone, but for now availability will be limited to Indian shores. You could however expect resellers to probably offer the Yuphoria for a 20-30% markup.

    Just so you are aware besides a Mi4 I also have an iOcean X8 (work phone), a Nexus 7 (best tablet ever made) and in the past have owned phones from THL, Gionee, Doogee, iNew, Apple, Nexus, Samsung and several others. For Potatoes I mostly buy Idaho or Red Bliss.

    I am a huge fan of Xiaomi and their Mitatotes! But I don’t buy them for the brand name, I buy them because they offer great specs, affordable prices and MIUI. If their is a better phone for the same money I will consider it. For instance I wanted phablet and chose the iOcean X8 over the Redmi Note. It was a better value to me.
    CM have better support than MIUI? One of the greatest things about MIUI is the support. They releases updates and bug fixes every single Friday and they actively listen to the community. The support is about equal.

      well i have wrote for many people is the same…and then, CM have been based at Andrid 5 now for long time(came out beffore it come offitial to many popular brand name flagships), and MIUI 6 is still based at 4.4
      much more product’s are suported…
      but, i agree, MIUI is also ok (i have redmi 1s, so i can say it from my expirience).
      and , since i see you are following this news a lot and writing your toths at many things, i wolul like to hear what do you think about Alcatel (TCL) ONO?

The Redmi 2 was an easy target but this one has its own weaknesses. SD410 at 1.2Ghz is rather slow, the dimensions are on the bulky side and so far it looks like no microSD.

  For a $100 phone SD 410 isn’t that bad. It’s not the best SoC but again these phones are dirt cheap you have to comprise somewhere.

    Actually it is since it doesn’t offer enough over some quad A7 at slightly higher clocks. It’s also easy to beat it with a Mediatek or Marvell clocked higher, or even at SD410 clocked higher since SD410 is supposed to go up to 1.4GHz.

      Again its a $100 phone. When you sell a phone as cheap as this you have to expect some compromises to be made They could have used the 6732 but then you would have something like the Elephone G2:
      1GB RAM, non hd display, 8GB ROM.

        This hardware choice was made because CM is in bed with Qualcomm but competitors can do better so it’s a weakness.

        Where are the competitors doing better for $100? I just gave you one the Elephone G2. They have a better SoC (6732) but worse in just about every other spec. When your releasing a phone with very little margin for profit you have to cut corners somewhere or that margin will shrink to nothing. For Elephone they went with a non hd screen and less memory.

        6732 would be at the same cost or cheaper than qualcomm 410. The reason they chose 410 might be something do with cyanogen. It is also possible they want to avoid paying erikson for using mediatek chip.

        Initial game reviews suggest that the device is snappy for regular tasks and even for some games.
        I suspect it is more to do with optimization rather than difference in performance perse b/n the two soc’s.

        MTK is known for not providing carnel source, and it does effect making custom roms,regular updating and much more. So it’s possible that reason for SD is CM12

        Every other phone using a 6732 that sells for $100 has either Non HD screen, 1GB RAM or both. Either those companies are being cheap, Micromax gets a deal on Qualcomm or the 6732 isn’t the same cost or cheaper.

        410 are not bad procesor, it will do all what regular user needs. Even more…you can’ t expect some havy gamming as with SGS 6, but it can push games.
        so, why do you think MTK would be much better choice!?
        Are youbrefferin to Antutu score?
        Let’s just say that it doesn’t mean nothing in real life..and how precise it is, you can see looking at S6 and S6 edge with same HW spec. showing 10 000 diference.
        So…SD410 IS right choise for entry level phone….hell, even older SD400 in redmi 1s works perfect.

        agreed. my wifes 2013 moto g with SD400 works perfectly for everything she does with her phone. but i doubt I’d buy her anything with less than the SD615 at this point.
        this is a good phone for $100, but for $75 more I can buy a new LG G2 with way better specs and performance. I realize that’s a significant difference to some, however

        Of corse it depends what do you expecting from a Phone. Some need to have SD810 or Exinos with best graphic avaible… But, as you say, if you looking for cheap Phone, you will not look something that costs more then 100-130$. And I must agree LG2 is much better choise, even with 2 generation of SoC then New MTK Phone, that cost Even more (after tax) and it’s not tested(and proved) good and have vorenty only in china

        The problem is older MTK chips didn’t come close to Qualcomm and people still have that misconception. They don’t realize or don’t want to admit that MTK has caught up to them in some ways and passed them in others.

  STtraight off, Mediatek does not provide source code, a huge let down. Its just like the misconception of ipone being better than android. Qualcomm supplies source code so more pps and roms and kernals can run.

Alibaba plans to invest $1.5 billion in Micromax. Things are looking good for Micromax from here on although they could improve their quality a notch better. Their LED televisions are known to have a lot of problems. The Yureka had some overheating and quality issues. Let’s hope they become a global brand in a few years. Only time will tell.

At first look I thought it’s gonna be a flagship. By any standard it’s looking good IMO. Seems to me it’s design language influenced from Lumias.
Usually I don’t favor SD410, but considering whole package price is great. They are going to release kernel code from day 1. With a Mediatek chip they can’t do that. Also they could be afraid of Ericsson’s wrath.
But I have to say, battery should have larger.
