Another flagship phone from iOcean? Yep, that’s correct and yes this could be the best yet! Here are the full details of the new iOcean Z1.
iOcean kicked off this year with the iOcean Rock, followed it up with the X9 and are now teasing us all with details of their iOcean Z1. Renders of the iOcean Z1 appeared a few weeks back, but now that all the details are in this flagship is looking better than we could have expected.
With the iOcean X9, iOcean played it safe by simply updating the build quality and material choice but keeping the hardware largely the same as the M6792 Rock. For the Z1 though they have gone back to the drawing board and taken another walk around the hardware suppliers.
First of all the design of the iOcean Z1 is better than anything with the iOcean brand stamped on it so far. Think of the UMi Zero but with a larger display and you aren’t to far from the overall look.
5.5-inch is the standard for most flagship phones this year, but this isn’t a standard 1920 x 1080 panel but rather a 2K 2560 x 1440 panel. Those additional pixels need more horsepower so a Mediatek MT6795 SoC with Mali T760 GPU are in place rather than the more common MT6752.
Gizchina News of the week
RAM remains 3GB, but internal memory is boosted to 32GB, plus space for a micro SD card. Dual SIM 4G LTE is also there with support for WCDMA 900/1900/2100, FDD-LTE 800/1800/2600.
The processor, build and screen aren’t the only areas we see improvement. The main camera on the iOcean Z1 is a 20 mega-pixel shooter for 4536 x 3024 resolution photos, while an 8 mega-pixel camera sits up front.
Battery size has also been greatly improved with current specifications stating a 4000mAh battery with up to 3 day battery life will be built-in to the slender alloy flagship. The final detail we know for sure is that Lollipop will ship as standard.
As for pricing. The iOcean Z1 is showing up on reseller sites already for $329.99, however we haven’t heard from iOcean about an official price, and this is most likely simply a place holder which will be changed once the Z1 is officially released.
The iOcean Z1 certainly sounds like it has what it takes to take on next ben flagships, and we cannot wait to see what rivals will prepare to tackle this latest Chinese mobile beast!

i am little bit skeptic about elephone and iocean. They allready made this year three phones (atl least) but how would look tke customer support look like? I fear, that in end of 2015 there wil lbe end of Iocean rock, elephone p7000 support. :-(.So maybe they got android 5.1 and maybe all the main bugs will be resolved, but thats it. But i am looking for a company with great customer care (atleast 16-24 months) .
Well, that’s an aspect that every single Chinese company has to improve
Hardware wise they can compete with anybody, but speaking of software they are still behind.
Although something is changing lately, the war of prices has arrived at the end:software and support is the new battle.
In my opinion Xiaomi and Umi are a step forward.
I would say Xiaomi, Meizu, Umi, Lenovo, Huawei and Vivo are all ahead. Some of them still need to do some work on their software (Meizu and Huawei) but they have a good starting foundation. Umi is great because of rootjoy, they realize their own ROM was crap. Elephone is supposed to be releasing something similar soon.
Color OS is one of the worst ROM’s I have ever used. Which amazes me that Vivo has a good one given they are sister companies.
I’m looking forward to the Xiaomi Mi5, that will have plenty of XDA support (if the Mi3/Mi4 is anything to go by).
You really don’t need XDA with Xiaomi phones. The MIUI forums are very active including with actual developers from Xiaomi there to answer questions and help. Xiaomi is one of the few Chinese companies that gets customer service and support right.
Talking about chinese phones haven’t heard many people commenting on the Jiayu S3 in recent times ?
Everyone here loves it. It’s not perfect but for under $200 it’s amazing. Had some hands on with it last week actually and It’s the first Jiayu I would actually buy.
Nice, lucky you. You said previously you change phones every 6 months with your company’s $200 budget. What about if you change every 12 months with a $400 budget ?
That’s actually the way the company does it kind of. They offer everyone either a iPhone or Galaxy (whatever the latest model is) . I don’t like either of those so I convinced them to let me get my own for $400. Originally I would usually get the latest Nexus, but after the Nexus S I wasn’t impressed anymore. That is when I bought my first Chinese phone and I loved it but it was only like $189. So about 4 months to go in the year my boss said if I didn’t use the other $220 I would lose it, so I got a tablet with it. Since then I’ve just been splitting it up every 6 months. Usually give the old one to one of the Thai relatives here who needs a new phone.
Ah fair enough, shame you can’t accumulate the money. 6 months is a bit quick, your company must like technology (or the boss at least). Checkout the MLAiS M7 if you have the chance.
My company works in technology, we work in marketing/advertising for tech companies in Asia. The company is always encouraging us to get the latest tech toys.
Makes sense I guess. If the iPad Pro materialises, thats one non android I’ll definitely try.
I am just not a fan of the Iphone ecosystem but I have a Macbook Pro and love it. It is one of the best built laptops I have ever used, but I run Ubuntu 14.04 on it lol.
If you are in China or the far east maybe, not if you are in Europe. Although Xiaomi are bring an online store for accessories here imminently.
I use the MIUI forums all the time when I was in the US. Any problems I had were answered in hours either by a seasoned Mi user or a company rep.
Fair enough. Which country or continent are you based in now ?
Now I am based in Asia, mostly Thailand. But also travel to Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Mynamar and Vietnam. 1 or 2 times a year I am in China and South Korea too.
iocean has quite good customer support. They answer within 48 hours.
Contact service@iocean.cc for general questions, haiyan.xue@iocean.cc for tech questions and jason.wu@iocean.cc for sales questions.
but in generally i mean phone support..fixing bugs, compile new versions of firmware etc. I got ZTE V5 for one year and they had monthly updates (fixing existing bugs etc)..they managed to fix 90% of the bugs and after one year stop…no support anymore. 🙁
