Xiaomi’s Mi 4i may have been launched almost a couple of months back, but there’s yet to be a version other than white that goes on sale.
Many have been patiently waiting to get the Mi 4i in colors other than white. Xiaomi is set to get the ball rolling on that front by making available the Dark Grey version of the Mi 4i in India 16th June.
The Mi 4i is Xiaomi’s mid-range ‘flagship’, powered by a 2nd generation Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13 mega-pixel camera, the same as the Xiaomi Mi Note. It also comes with a 5-inch screen with a 1080p resolution, much like the metal clad Mi 4.
Gizchina News of the week
The Mi 4i will sell for the same 12,999 INR as the white version. The phone also comes in a few other colors, but as you can guess they’re still to go on sale. The phone will be available via Xiaomi’s own Mi.com store in India on the 16th, in contrast to its earlier Flipkart only model.
Stay tuned for the full review of the Xiaomi Mi 4i.
I understand that it might be some marketing strategy behind the late release of different colors but enough is enough, I’m not going to buy any other Xiaomi phone until they release the black version early.
It’s been almost a year since I got the MI4 (which I love) and I still hate the white color.
I’ve never gotten used to it.
My next phone won’t be a Xiaomi simply for this reason.
I also like black phones the most, or black front white back phones.
The Mi4 definitely looks better in black.
I might sound too harsh but it’s on personal taste.
Same thing happens with cars.
I would never buy a white car!
I’m totally the opposite when cars are concerned. My favorite color is white and I would never buy a black car, but you’re right it’s personal.
I was converted when I was a white van driver.
It’s 100% personal taste. I would never get a silver or white car it’s the two most boring colors in the world to me for a car. Black I like but it gets dirty too easily, especially if you live somewhere with snow/salt. My Volvo S60 (US car) is sexy dark blue and my Mini Cooper (Thai car) is dark brown (Mini calls it Iced Chocolate).
About color preference: Not only is it 100% personal taste, but that personal taste can change over the years. Example: For over 15 years, I only drove black cars, and it was the only color I would go for. But my current car is a frozen white color. And I love it.
(Come to think of it: I will use this example when one day my little girl decides she wants to get a tattoo :-)).
You guys are missing my point.
I agree with you about trend that changes over the years but you always had a choice and you chose the black car and now white.
The problem here is about the lack of choices
No, not missing your point, just digressing a bit 🙂 (But I DO feel your pain, if that makes you feel any better :-)).
Lol, you don’t have to,I wasn’t asking for sympathy. 🙂
Like I said,I agree with your statement about trends changing over the year and adjustment of the common taste according to the trend but that didn’t happen to me unfortunately.
I’ve hated the color of my phone since day 1 and I still do.
Back in time they only provided the white version and seems like they are going on with this strategy which pisses me off because they don’t provide a simple alternative that costs nothing to them.
Yea If you had told me 10 years ago I would be driving a brown car (which kind of looks like a turd lol) I wold have laughed in your face. But once I saw it at the dealer I had to have it.
Brown?!? Now THERE’S a color I will definitely never buy! Lol 🙂
I said that too but once you see it in person with the white roof and white mirrors/stripes it is so sexy!
Hahhah, rock on dude!
I like to call the color “Coffee Bean Brown” or “Oscuro Brown” because after Cell phones, coffee and cigars are my two loves.
it’s a good thing you threw ‘cell phones’ in there, cuz we were about to get banned 😉
Lol tech is always my first love!
I wanted to make sure that I was speaking for myself and everything was on personal taste.
I also understand that it’s a marketing choice, and since I don’t have the numbers I really can’t say if it pays off or not (I’m sure it does).
But speaking as a customer if this trend goes on then I have to say goodbye to Xiaomi or any other brand that comes only with white versions.
I’ll tell you the truth I am a diehard Xiaomi fanboy as you know but I am starting to fall for a new company: Lenovo. I had some hands on time with the Xshot at a Lenovo Sales office (good friends of mine). For the 15 minutes I spent with it I was floored by how good it is.
A couple of years ago you could find phones as good as xiaomi ones but they were priced badly.
Today is all different, the competition is getting rough and even a small detail like color variety could cost you a customer.
That was the point of my comment. I’m a huge fan like you and I showed it buying a white phone that I hate.
Am I going to do it again?
No, today I have more alternatives for my budget.
You mentioned one, I can list few as well.
I completely agree with you, white looks cheap and tacky to me on a phone and is the main reason I never bought the Xplay 3s (was kinda hoping they would do a blue/black version like the Xshot). Xiaomi aren’t alone in releasing a white phone before offering other colours months later though…
