OnePlus 2 will have Snapdragon 810 (v2.1)

If you remember following OnePlus One proceedings last year, you will know how OnePlus go about announcing the specifications of their device — bit by bit. Not only does this manage to keep a high level of interest, it also gives the product a lot more footage as compared to announcing all specs at once.

OnePlus CEO and founder Pete Lau posted on the OnePlus forums today that the upcoming OnePlus 2 will have the Snapdragon 810 CPU. Like me, you’ll have wondered why the choice given the nasty overheating issues that the Snapdragon 810 reports… the answer to that, according to OnePlus, is revision 2.1 of the chipset.

According to Lau, OnePlus “worked very closely with Qualcomm’s engineers to integrate an improved version of the chipset (v2.1) in the OnePlus 2, and fine-tuned both hardware and software. The 2 will be cooler than ever“.

The Snapdragon 810 has an octa-core CPU with 64-bit cores, along with the Adreno 430 GPU. The OnePlus One is perhaps the best battery phone of 2014, and OnePlus plan to continue the trend with the OnePlus 2.

The phone is scheduled to launch Q3 this year, so we expect OnePlus to be a bit faster in revealing the specifications of the OnePlus 2 compared to last year. What’s your take on the use of the CPU?

  Yup Xiaomi said they were also using a newer version of the 810 which doesn’t have the heat issues yet all the reviews I’ve read have said the phone still gets very hot, especially in the area around the CPU (for an English review check Android Authority).

    It has to be mentioned though that when playing games, or while watching a lot of videos, the Mi Note Pro did start to get a little warm, and you can definitely feel the heat dissipating through the metal frame. It doesn’t get to the point where the device becomes uncomfortable to hold or downright unusable, and is not necessarily a huge concern, but rather something to be aware of.
    Also they have not mentioned heating issues in CONS
    It will not be a problem it seems, more than user experience, most of the people afraid of S810 because of reviews and forums,

      Sorry I don’t buy it. That very fact that they mentioned the heat suggests a problem and/or irregularity — of course it’s not going to get to the point of being too hot to hold (that’s just stupid) but it seems they want to get it out there that the device does get hot but at the same trying to make it sound like it’s not that bad but at the same time it’s something you should be aware of. WTF?
      There are also a lot of Chinese video reviews on youku.com albeit I don’t think you will be able to understand them.

        I am just wondering how NUBIA Z9, and Letv Le 1 Pro and MAx going to do.. Fingers crossed, If experienced Xiaomi can not handle SD810, how about Letv!!!

    Also doubles as a cigarette lighter. In fact they are creating a Bic App where you press an on screen picture of a lighter, hold your cig close to the battery and voila its lit!

  excellent! but i suspect the real reason OP2 is using the 810 is because that’s what OPPO Find 9 is using and the OP2 will again be a rebadge of OPPO phones. makes sense since OPPO owns them.

  Xiaomi Note Pro user here (SD810) – No heating issues at all. Usual increase in temps while gaming, just like most other phones. Maybe Xiaomi did something right, but the processor is a beast, and I have a feeling the temperature issues are a bit overblown.
  If they were as widespread as some claim them to be, I’d expect it occur on my device as well, since I frequently play pretty demanding games (GameLoft, EA etc.)
  Do you actually have an SD810 phone? If yes, which one? And what are the temps you see during intense loads?

      I think this is the latest 2.1 revision of the SD810 mate. The previous revisions found in M9, G Flex 2 were overheating. The most annoying thing is that Qualcomm never admitted that their cpu was having a problems.What a shame.

    That’s a flat out lie.
    SD810 is deeply broken, so broken that regulators should stop in and stop them from selling it.
    Yeah it can perform as claimed for a moment and then it just dies.

  Random thoughts based on your examples:
  – I would vote for Bush a third time if it meant no more Obama. Bush was an idiot but he at least knew what the words “foreign policy” meant.
  – My dog drinks from the toilet when no one is looking and she is always happy. Maybe its the new fountain of youth? Maxpower why don;t you test this theory for me….
  – Tpain fell in love with a stripper. And Usher doesn’t mind if she dances on the pole.
  – That would be a good way to see if the outlet works, if you don’t die you know you need to call an electrician!
  – Comcast is the devil. But in some areas of the country its your only choice and they know it which is why I pay over $200 every month for my parents cable/internet bill.

Honestly if anyone wants a cheap SD810 phone the LG G Flex2’s price has been dropping like a rock since it launched. It’s down to about $375 USD now — and that’s for the 32GB version.

Well I think it all comes down to how fast you clock the SD810 because if you clock it lower you can lower the voltage and I bet it’s not going to be getting that hot.
Then again do you really want a lower clocked SD810 ? Personally I’m really waiting for the Helio x20 which seems like a far better idea. I for one rarely require the highest performance from my phone SOC so I’d much rather have something that can save battery power then absolutely highest performing SOC.
Too bad about the SD810 because some of the phones using it I really like with the Nubia Z9 being my favorite ( except for the price )

  They said today they’ll clock it at 1.8GHz so it will almost survive normal use but the perf won’t be all that great.
  Might as well be 1xA57 plus 4xA53 since they can’t use more than that.
