OnePlus 2 will have a USB Type C port

LeTV may have been the first manufacturer to have shipped Android phones with USB Type C ports, but the good folks at OnePlus seem to be oblivious to that.

Which is perhaps why, OnePlus claim that the OnePlus 2 will be the ‘first flagship smartphone to use the latest Type C USB’. OnePlus announced this via their social streams minutes back.

Earlier, OnePlus said that the OnePlus 2 would come powered by the infamous Snapdragon 810, which would however be clocked down to avoid overheating. The company also said that the OnePlus 2 would be priced ‘more than US$322’, to the disappointment of many who’d grown used to US$299 flagships.

Nonetheless, besides the OnePlus marketing strategy (which has been controversial to say the least), the phone itself should be quite an interesting device for this year. The OnePlus One did exceedingly well in 2014, but was a device which has tough to get hold of. OnePlus will want to improve on their retail chain if they’re aiming to be a true global brand.

USB-C is overrated, the only difference is that you won’t need to flip your cable. I would better flip my cable but pay less.
But well, marketing is marketing. They need to suggest something more than additional ram GB and Snapdragon 810, so it is kind of logical move.

    Are you saying me that you are too lazy to flip your USB ? It’s not a Samsung phone which costs $700, it’s a budget phone which should focus on as useful things as possible for the money.

      If the lightning port on the iphones is a good indicative of things to come, than we won’t see as many broken charging ports with the type c. The current micro usb port it’s quite susceptible to physical damage.

        I understand my household is not a good statistical sample but we go over 10 lightning cables a year and zero micro USB

        I was referring to the charging ports, not the cables. They seem to be the ones to take the brunt of a improper coupling or from maneuvering the phone while charging. And yes, the lightning cables are complete and utter garbage. Doesn’t matter if they are the original product or aftermarket substitutes, they go bad faster then a bottle of milk forgotten in the sun of a torrid summer day.

      It is indeed not a Samsung phone which cost $ 700,- but it is a flagship phone which in my opinion should feature Astuff. I do quite like the idea of USB-C… saves time looking at the cable :p

oneplus marketing BS, I don’t know what I expected
also why is type C get picked over micro usb 3.0, i don’t give a shit what the port looks like or if it’s reversible, backwards compatibility would have been better

Please I knew these news even before One plus 2 ever said. It’s 2015 for god’s sake. Every high tech phone must have type C port. By the way hope gets a little bigger battery cause type C can charge others also

There’s a hedge missing from the quote: OnePlus says it’s the “first global flagship…”. Not sure if that was edited in later or not, but for now they can claim bragging rights since LeTV doesn’t sell globally.
