Elephone P9000 shows up running deca-core Mediatek chip

elephone p7000 review

Elephone P7000 and P8000 owners get ready to riot, here comes details of the Elephone P9000!

Elephone have risen to fame rather quickly. Their combination of speed and price has really helped the brand jump over rivals and become one of the dominant phone makers in the Chinese tech space, but can this method continue?

Elephone certainly seem to think so as we are already seeing specs for an upcoming Elephone P9000 phone! Just this year fans patiently waited for the P7000 to launch only for it to be superseded by the P8000, and the same is going to happen again with the P9000!

According to early details, the Elephone P9000 will boast a deca-core Helio X20 chipset, 4GB RAM and 20.7 mega-pixel main camera! impressive hardware once again, but will their build quality be improved this time around and what about ROM optimisation? We certainly hope so with the suggested retail price of $499.99!

The rest of the specs look similar to current Elephone devices and include a 5.5-inch FHD display, LTE, 3100mAh battery and support for 128GB SD cards.

What do you think of this news? Does the prospect of another Elephone get you excited or are you getting fed up with all these ‘coming soon’ phones?

This is getting ridiculous. Soon they will be making a new phone every day!

And why not, if the new SoC is pin-compatible. All the work a company needs to do is to load the soldering robot with the updated component.

It’s ridiculous for sure, because they can’t even handle the needed supplies for P7000 and P8000.

    “….support for 128GB SD cards”.

I’ve always been a bit confused about this. I have 2 MT6752 phones (iOcean Rock and Ecoo E04). Both of these handle my 128GB SD card with no issues whatsoever, despite specs saying they can only handle 64GB.

      June 23, 2015

it’s a common thing, same goes for brands like Samsung, HTC and LG, ‘officially’ they only support 64gb, but 128 works just fine

Just seems strange behavior from the manufacturers though when considering their usual MO of exaggerating the phone’s capabilities. Seems like they are missing a trick by not stating that the phones are compatible with 128GB cards.

I think I have an idea. Even my last year phone A850+ works just fine with 64GB, I bet it can run a 128GB too, but if you look at the specs it supports up to 32GB. This year I’m using a K3 Note which officially supports up to 64GB if I’m not mistaken, but I’m currently enjoying a 128 card! You just need to format it to FAT32. It’s even partitioned because I like to use Link2SD. May be that’s the case: 64GB and more cards are usually coming factory formatted on ExFat which many phones don’t support, so manufacturers take that fact and mark the phone as “microsd up to 64” which is actually wrong, but yet it’s practical because they won’t get all the stupid emails and calls to customer support by users talking shit like “Why my phone is not working with that card”.

      June 23, 2015

The problem is certain 128GB SD cards might not be read by the system which would lead people to return their phones claiming they are defective. Rather than have that happen they just say 64 is the max. I actually had a few 128gb cheapo SD Cards that couldn’t be read by one of my phones, whereas ones from Sandisk could.

Just ordered a Meizu M2 Note based on it’s Samsung sensor pics and vid samples. Looks great for the money. Not bothered by performance drop over M1, SD card support bigger plus.

          • Muhammad Yasir
            June 23, 2015

u sure bro ? the M1 was wayy better in cam dept … the dudes here at gizchina.com were drooling over it like CRAZY !

u shoulda asked around these forums for good cam phones under $200 before making such a move.

anyhow , goodluck to you 🙂

              June 23, 2015

it’s the exact same camera as far as i’m aware (confirmed by another website, with performance and focus improvements), samples look great, especially video. already have Iuni U2 and Gionee E7 so covered for cams, but wanted to try an imx214 or Isocell. was set to get a Cubot X11, but they havent optimised the IMX214 very well, so changed to the Meizu.

400$ with international shipping..that would have been nice..assuming that phone lives up to expectation of flagship.

  7. June 23, 2015

Are we still in April? I’d think this is some kinda April fool. Somebody please tell me I’m not being punked.

A P9000 already? I really am scared of how fast these guys are churning out out smartphones. Hardware is supercool but what about the software side of things? How is that gonna perform? Laggy? or Buttery smooth? Time will tell.

This was announced about 4 days ago with a ‘supposed’ release date in mid October. Considering Mediatek won’t be releasing this chip till December with consumer devices arriving in Q1 2016 this isn’t going to happen. Secondly why would this ‘new flagship’ have a FHD display when their P8000 ‘flagship’ has a 2K display? Considering the GPU in the X20 is around twice as powerful this doesn’t make any sense. This will more likely arrive October 2016 when everyone will be talking about the 12 core X30!!!

Won`t it be great if someone finally offers a 128GB phone? Storage is very cheap these days, and for a phone that costs this much, I`d rather have 128GB, than 1440p screen.
Knowing this is Elephone it might be that this phone will never see the light of day, or at least not with those specs/price.

    • balcobomber25
      June 23, 2015

It seems like every area a phone can improve on has evolved over the past few years, except storage space.

      • Steven Fox
        June 23, 2015

Right on! I`ve had a 32GB phone for two years, now for 400$ and above you get a 16GB phone, that`s just plain ridiculous, you have to pay 100$ more for 16GB more storage, which costs 15$ max.

For that kind of money people are better of going to their local shop and buying a phone from an expensive brand.

oh i am and believe me , im from the same city (Karachi) where about 2000+(and counting) people have died from Heat Stroke.

I don’t venture too far out from the house and while the local Electric Supply organization is doing EVERYTHING to kill me (low voltage around 130 v , 2 / 3 phases are offline for over a month so Air COnditioners dont work at all) but im still going strong somehow. The heat’s kinda making me have some melting feeling but i guess i’ll live , especially if rain comes around sooner…

some pleople waiting P7000 and elephone releasing P8000 soon and building P9000… is a horrible strategic… many phones per month with 0% optimization after released… Many new phones in a short time… G9 , VOWNEY, S2, S2 PLUS, P7000, P8000, P9000.. and maybe i not remember some phone………………

    June 24, 2015

I think the people working for Elephone have Elephant brains which is why instead of providing support for their already released product they just keep on releasing new phones one after another.

I think someone on their marketing division is thinking like this, “If we release new phones every 2 months and don’t provide support after that, customers will be forced to buy our newly released phones.” Seriously? Do they really believe this is how buyers think?

Aside from the fact they release phones faster then Usain Bolt running a 100m, I am really keen to see this X20 in a device. Especially combined with an FHD screen(I think most of us here agree anything more is overkill), it should fly. Well, provided they don’t bugger the software up too badly 😉

Never again Elephone. I bought P3000S 64bit with Lollipop promise in April, when order came to me(after two weeks), Elephone said – sorry mate, we stopped producing this phone and there will be no lollipop. It means it will be no further support I guess. Strange tactics to release “flagships” every month and stop producing and supporting them after two weeks. Never again.
