Reports indicate that the Alcatel OneTouch Hero 2+ that should hit the market very soon has been canceled in an agreement between both Alcatel and Cyanogen.
The Hero 2+ was announced back in March in a Alcatel and Cyanogen partnership, the device would feature decent hardware and optimized Cyanogen OS that promised some neat features as enhanced customization, security, and photo and video capture.
Now Alcatel OneTouch and Cyanogen just made a public statement regarding the launch of the Hero 2+, and the news is not good. Both companies revealed that they will not release the phone anymore. The biggest reason is justified as the handset ‘does not have a clear Android 5.1 upgrade path.’ You can see the statement made from Steve Cistulli of Alcatel OneTouch and Vikram Natarajan of Cyanogen:
ALCATEL ONETOUCH and Cyanogen, Inc. have made a mutual decision to forgo the release of the HERO 2+. At its announcement, the goal of bringing this device to market was to offer the most advanced hardware and software at an affordable price. The bar was set high and unfortunately the device does not have a clear Android 5.1 upgrade path. We therefore are committing to refocus our joint efforts on a next-generation product that can exceed the expectations of end users. Our teams remain dedicated to releasing an ALCATEL ONETOUCH device powered by Cyanogen OS, and are looking to share an update when we have more details to share.
Gizchina News of the week
The device would have had a 6-inch 1080ppanel with a built-in stylus, 2.0Ghz MT6592T, 2GB of Ram and 16GB of Storage plus 13MP rear camera and 5MP in the front.
The declaration ‘does not have a clear Android 5.1 upgrade path.’ can only be justified by the MT6592 choice, the 2013 chipset can already be considered aturned pagebyMediatek, and since the company has very strict policies regarding updates for old chipsets it probably hindered the planned cycle of updates that Cyanogen OS promises.
