The OnePlus 2 is arguably one of the most anticipated smartphones to come from China, for reasons good and bad alike. Thanks to posts and teasers by the OnePlus team, we now know quite a lot about the upcoming flagship, especially things like the device running a lower clocked version of Snapdragon 810, the device using OnePlus’s own Oxygen ROM instead of Cyanogen, the fingerprint scanner on the device, even that the device will have a USB-C port, not to mention an earlier tip today claiming a dual camera design.
Despite all this however, the CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, figured that this still wasn’t enough. He decided to take to Weibo and post a short comment asking people how to define “full metal”. For those who haven’t noticed, this is a clear tease that the OnePlus 2 will have a metal build (and possibly an attempt to poke fun at Meizu too) a step away from the Sandstone Black and Silk White StyleSwap covers of the original OnePlus One. We know for a fact that many people will probably love this change, but on the flipside there are also people who simply love the swapable OnePlus One rear covers.
Gizchina News of the week
With all these teasers and posts, you really have to wonder whether there will still be any questions left during the OnePlus 2 launch. We already know quite a lot about the device, and the launch of the device itself is still a few weeks away. What do you think? Is it wise of OnePlus to release all of this information, or should they just keep everything under wraps until the 27th? Tell us in the comments.

there’s really nothing exciting about this new phone and they are trying to raise the hype with BS like:
USB C…..wooohoooo!
Full Metaaaallllll!!!! woooohoooooo!
White Displayyyyyyyy!!!!! no kiddin!!!
Yes, those details really make me want this phone…..not.
4GB RAM rumour
Ram is part of the SoC and SD810 has been built with 4GB ddr4 ram.
So this is not a rumour.
but still nothing to get excited for.
Lol..
RAM is part of the SoC? And SD810 (or for that matter any SoC out there) has inbuilt RAM??
You seriously need to recheck what you just wrote 😛
I’m glad i made you laugh, now I’m making you learn something too.
feels good being useful.
from Wikipedia:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_on_a_chip
“A typical SoC consists of:
a microcontroller, microprocessor or digital signal processor (DSP) core […]
memory blocks including a selection of ROM, RAM, EEPROM and flash memory”
and below there’s the diagram of SD810
Max Power: I really don’t get people like you! Why do yo bitch about this phone and say there is nothing to get excited about? I laughed when you wrote that 4 gig’s of ram was nothing to get excited over. You do know that 4gb still isn’t the standard across the board of all phones, right? What are you expecting, 8 gig’s of ram?! There are so many people on this site who bitch about every phone coming out from China. People are even bitching about the UMI Iron! People! Do you know how cheap that phone is for the great specs it has?! I don’t know how anyone can bitch about these phones from China when the majority of these phones are at least half the price of their big name rivals with very comparable specs. China is being to good to you all. You all have become spoilt children!
so just because you find exciting 4GB ram anybody else are not entitled on different opinions?
i dont find the new Op2 exciting because they went from “never settle” to “let’s settle”.
they did with the software losing CM, they did with the hardware picking a crippled SD810.
just look at the comments all around the web, you will notice my opinion is widely diffused.
you don’t like the style i use on my comments?
i can care less, some people like being sarcastic, some like to use the word ” bitch” 10 times in a sentence of 11 words. it’s called free of speech.
i do live in a free country, if you don’t l,then it’s none of my business.
Yes, you are allowed your opinion, as am I. That’s why I can call you out on your opinions and ask you about them, thanks to free speech. However, it’s how YOU word your opinions. You say that there is nothing to get excited for. Well, going by your opinion, how can we get excited by any phone that comes out? As nearly all phones use a similar standard of parts and SOC configurations depending on the current trend at the time of these devices coming out within their certain price ranges. The way you word your opinions, you make it sound like these phones from China should be doing so much more! When in actual fact, this new 1+ phone is pretty much matching its top rivals and at probably half the price! The price aspect alone should be exciting to anyone! Then you contradict yourself in your reply. You make an argument that 3gb is enough (which it is), but then you go against their company slogan “Never Settle”. Well 4gb is better than 3gb, right? So they are not settling for 3gb. Lol! And you contradict yourself further still, by giving them crap about the 810 chipset! Well as you know, they are underclocking it so it doesn’t overheat, which is smart, no? It will still be more of a stable SOC than most Mediatek phones (have you seen how many of you guys complain about Mediatek? Lol!). Also, it will still be more powerful than their last phone. So going by your “3gb of ram is more than enough” argument, the last 1+ phone still can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it! So their last phone is already more than good enough, right? So anything more is a bonus! So, an under clocked 810 with 4gb of ram should be exciting, because it is already more powerful than a phone that can already handle everything! Oh! And at half the price of Samsung, LG and Sony! I really don’t know what you want from a phone? The last 1+ was already an affordable, well made, thin, great spec device. The new one plus will probably build upon that, and pretty much check off your list of what makes a phone exciting.
that is and stays simply your opinion.
i have a different one, and I’m not alone with it.
I’m not contradicting myself saying that an underclocked version of the SD810 is not exciting.
i have heard companies saying that they managed to fix the heat problem to then find out that it wasn’t true.
did OnePlus find the solution? maybe yes, maybe not, definitely not excited to find out.
they lost CM, do you know how many people got the 1+1 just for CM? now they have their Rom, i bet it’s damn good, but being on early stage can’t compete with CM.
Am i saying an heresy???
Price: we already know it’s going to cost more than the One, we don’t know how much more. are you excited to know about it?
I’m not.
again, those are my opinions, I’m not expecting you to agree or change your mind.
I’m free to express them in the way i like and you’re more then welcome to come here and debate.
using “bitching” or “lol” every other word doesn’t make your opinions look any smarter. just saying.
i can tell you haven’t spent much time here because you said that people complain about mediatek.
there are more mediatek fans here than qualcomm ones.
the oneplus one was an exciting product , this second one doesn’t excite me for the many reason i said above and the extra GB of RAM won’t change the story.
but anyway, we will know soon how this phone will sell.
cheers
i just realized i didn’t answer your “questions”
never settle was referred to going for SD810 and cripple it to deal with heat issue.
“It will still be more of a stable SOC than most Mediatek phones”
how did you come out with this conclusion? it has been proved that SD810 throttles, we don’t know yet about the version on the OP2 unless they gave you a sample to test yourself which i doubt.
which mediatek SOC are you referring when you use the word unstable? this year 64bit version of mediatek SoC are far better than the Qualcomm versions and its not just my opinion, check tech blogs and you will find out yourself.
I’m on a Chinese phone blog, when i speak about a phone I’m comparing to other Chinese phones and not to the other brands.
Oneplus is not the only one that cost half the price of LG,Sony and Samsung. there are Xiaomi,Meizu,ZTE,Huawei,Lenovo and many more.
Haha! You never really answered my core question and i don’t think you really got my questions or the point I was trying to make . Lol! Anyway, that matters not now.
Software and hardware relationships are very unstable on mediatkek phones. They are notorious for this in the 3rd party development community. They keep developers in the dark, while Qualcomm, for the most part, is very open. That’s why many big name companies and developers are still on the fence when it comes to Mediatek. However, Mediatek are making big strides this year and I know more companies will warm to them very soon. But still, for 3rd party developers, they are a nightmare! So I wasn’t talking about the heating issues when I said “unstable”. Also, (even though you won’t belive me) I am a developer, I have gotten my hands dirty with this stuff, have you?
Has Oneplus sorted out the heating issue? Who knows? But underclocking is the next logical step. It’s the same as a pc. If the CPU or GPU overheat, you find a way to cool them, or you underclock them. It’s as Simple as that.
Mediatek utilise their CPU configuration to be more efficient, but not for high workloads. However, that doesn’t mean they can’t take a high workload. Mediatek are the AMD of mobile phones. Like AMD, their chips usually come with a few shortcomings and are often left playing catch up with their rivals. But I still love them for one reason: again, like AMD, their price to performance ratio is outstanding! They allow us all to have amazing flagship quality pones for very affordable prices.
I have been reading Gizchina for quite a while now. You may have been here longer, but I dont exactly care. I decided to comment because over the last few months, I’ve been seeing so many people bad mouth these phones for stupid reasons and completely forget that these phone companies are giving people so much but asking for so little when compared to their big bad counterparts. These are the companies we have always dreamed of having. Companies that sell great hardware for cheap prices. But many now seem to be taking these companies for granted. That’s why I said in my original coment that many of you are acting like spoilt children. You are getting to much of a good thing!
And yes, I do know about all the other great chinese phone manufactures, so don’t asume that I don’t. I have a Xiaomi MI 3, Xiaomi MI Tab, Oneplus One and I am currently rocking a MI Note Pro, ironically a phone which uses a 810. It does get a little hot, but I’ve had other phones get to this level. So far, ive had no major problem with the device. Also, I have bought my mother a Meizu M1 note and I will be buying my stepfather the Umi Iron. So yes, I am very familiar with these companies, as I can buy them from the many Chinese owned travel sim shops that are in and around my area.
So anyway, my question to you: What phone, as a whole package, would actually get you excited?
See, I didn’t use the “B” word in either of my last two messages! Haha 😛
no phone out there really excites me.
i own a MI4 right now and no phone already released makes go nuts to switch.
so I’ll wait for more, for a better (efficient) SoC to be released, for a camera with OIS, for a battery bigger than 3500mha, for a phone that doesn’t require begging or spending hours to the forum to get an invitation and so on.
speaking of development, i believe you have an account on github, would you mind showing me what have you been working on?
since you brought up how Qualcomm and Mediatek released their documentation
i want let you know dear dirty handed developer (lol) that without kernel source from the company there’s not much you can do.
I can see you have few Xiaomi devices, well let me remind you that the Kernel source of your MI3 and Note Pro was released 3 months ago.
about your MI tab(???) i assume you meant MI PAD, it’s not a Qualcomm device, but Nvidia and the kernel source is not out yet.
so where have you been working on?
are you a CM developer?
or by dirty hands you meant do some porting?
i do care less about the extra giga of ram because i don’t see it as a priority.
i use one of the heaviest rom out there,I almost never clean the cache and reboot the phone once a month and still i have 0.8GB of free memory out of 3GB.
should i get excited over the extra GB? explain me why?
DRR4… let’s talk about it,
the latency increased so the real benefit is relative.
ask 100 people out there to sort the best features between:
– slim design
– bigger battery
– fingerprint scanner
– quick charge
– bigger storage
– sd card slot
– qHD display
– extra GB of ram
and tell me how many would put the extra GB of ram on top of their priorities.

Uhm.. The LG G Flex 2 SD810 doesn’t have 4GB DDR4 RAM.
yes, you are right.
they made the underpowered version to deal with heat issues.
there are 3GB and 2GB version.
1. How does that not make it a rumour?
2. Have you seen how much the extra RAM makes the 4GB Zenphone over the 2 GB one?

Oneplus should use snapdragon 815 atleast.
that would make the OnePlus 2 an interesting device.
too bad that SoC doesn’t exist. O_o
there is the snapdragon 818 though.
neither that one.
there was a rumor back in may about the SD 818 which has been denied by Qualcomm.
they are working with Samsung on Snapdragon 820 but it won’t hit the market before next fall or early next year.
The OP2 would go great with one of the new high end Exynos SoCs.
The only thing that is interesting is the price
If it is about 2000 CNY, the phone will be a killer
Will it actually be launched? Or sold through a suspicious invite/etc system that only companies with something to hide do.
a portable heater!
A metal body to dissipate heat from the S810.
I am not interested in SD 810 phone ! I am not willing to buy such product even if it cost 200 USD .I will wait for the SD 820 that will come in November in MI 5 and LG 4 PRO devices.
I love wood / bamboo feels. That’s why I’m using OPO with bamboo back now. I hope there’ll be another bamboo phone later.
