MIUI 6 for Xiaomi Redmi 1S FINALLY released!

Xiaomi gave its MIUI skin a major overhaul with the launch of the Mi 4 last year, from MIUI V5 to MIUI 6. Despite that, the update took a while to get to other Xiaomi phones, and it is only today that the very popular Redmi 1S gets the ROM update.

The Redmi 1S is arguably the Redmi lineup’s most popular phone, which is now succeeded by the Redmi 2. The Redmi 1S has a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720p display, a Snapdragon 400 SoC, 1GB RAM, a superb (for its price) 8 mega-pixel rear camera, 1.6 mega-pixel front facing camera and a 2000mAh battery.

MIUI 6 is generally believed to be more resource heavy than MIUI V5, so it’ll be interesting to see if Xiaomi has made any special optimizations to make the software run error-free on the Redmi 1S.

According to Xiaomi, the OTA notification for the new update will be live on your phone within the next couple of days. However, if you’re the impatient types, Xiaomi has a solution — you can go ahead and download the ROM manually and do a manual flash. Download the ROM here.
