Xiaomi Redmi 2 now costs a mere $96 (599 Yuan)

Xiaomi’s Redmi series is all about aggressive pricing. It all started with the Hongmi, and has since taken off.

The latest from the Redmi lineup is the Redmi 2. The phone might not have exploded with popularity as much as Xiaomi would’ve liked, but there’s still a market for such phones one would believe. Xiaomi’s also gearing up to launch the Redmi Note 2 (very soon?), and clearly wants to win the buyers’ attention back… which is why the Redmi 2 gets a price cut.

The Redmi 2 is now only 599 Yuan (US$96.50) in China, which makes it quite a budget buy. If you aren’t aware, or don’t remember, here is what the Redmi 2 is made up of: 4.7-inch 1280 x 720p display, 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC, 1GB RAM, 8GB on-board ROM (expandable), an 8 mega-pixel rear camera and a 2 mega-pixel front facing camera. The phone is powered by a 2200mAh battery.

Of course, the pricing only applies to buyers in China; resellers though should soon start offering the phone with prices that reflect the price cut.
