Xiaomi’s Redmi 2 certainly didn’t create as many rippled in the smartphone industry as the previous-gen Redmi 1S (which honestly had a gem of a camera). But, buyers across the world have been waiting for the 2GB RAM version of the Redmi 2 (aka the Redmi 2 Pro) to show up.
There isn’t a lot that has changed from the original version of the Redmi 2; it’s only the RAM which is double the amount and an additional 8GB storage (making it a total of 16GB).
Gizchina News of the week
The phone still has a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720p display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 MSMS8916 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, dual SIM support, an 8 mega-pixel rear camera, a 2 mega-pixel front-facing camera and a 2200mAh battery.
It’s only on pre-order at the moment, which shipping scheduled to commence 15th July. The listing on GearBest mentions a price tag of US$142 for the device, so not an official launch from Xiaomi but at least a chance for Xiaomi fans to bag a budget Mi device.
Is the Redmi 2 Pro going to be your secondary phone this summer? Let us know in the comments section below.
As far as i know, Redmi 2 2GB doesn’t have the 900 mhz wcdma band and it could be a drawback for some people…
Fit it with a MT6752 SoC and the same rear camera as the Mi4i, and I instantly order one.
Haha definitely true with a 2700mAh battery It would be so perfect! It is really boring there are many phones out there but 95% of them are phablets. Only Siswoo I7 and THL 2015 are interesting around 5inch screen but each phone has pros and cons.
If they did that it would cost more money and would be a direct competitor to the Mi4i. This is meant to be a budget phone, not a mid range. And as a budget phone it is one of the best available. The rear camera on the Redmi 2 is excellent and rivals those found on phones that cost twice as much as it.
Sirr, you are right …. the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro doesn’t support the 900 MHz band in 3G, so it’s gonna be rejected by many people.
I wouldn’t say many people, 900 isn’t exactly the most used band. 2100 is and every country that uses 900 also uses 2100.
Yes there are other bands for 3G, what happens is that for example here in Spain the 900 MHz is used in rural zones, so if you go outside the cities you will not have coverage.
Anyway it’s weird that the Redmi 2 (8G ROM 1 GB RAM) supports that band using the same chipset
Most of these companies when they plan for international sales they plan for the device selling in the major economic area not the rural areas. It sucks but its the way it goes.
Well, the pro version is available from ages, I don’t get the point from such a news.
Yea I was confused by this too, I thought maybe it was a new version. It has been available on resellers for quite some time. Honorbuy has it today for $149.
AFAIK it’s not only RAM, but also 8 vs. 16 GB ROM
I want to moan about the price but give me some time……….
