‘Trunk’ is Elephone’s own sub-brand (plus details of its first phone)

Everyone’s having sub-brands these days. Huawei has Honor, Xiaomi has Redmi (which is more a franchise than a sub-brand), Micromax has Yu, and the list goes on.

The newest company to join this list of sub-brand bearers is China’s own Elephone. Elephone might not be as big as some other sub-brands themselves, but there’s no denying that Elephone does have ambitions unmatched by other companies (they go too far at times. yes).

12-1--

The new Elephone sub-brand will be called ‘Trunk’. More than a sub-brand per se, Trunk will be a lineup of affordable phones. The first smartphone under the Elephone Trunk lineup will have a 5-inch display, a Snapdragon CPU (unknown model), will run Android 5.0 Lollipop, and — like we’ve seen with devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 4i, Meizu m2 note — will have multiple color options available.

There’s no word on when the phones under the Elephone Trunk line will be made available, but given Elephone’s track record, that shouldn’t be too far away.

There’s no two ways about sub-brands for now — they’re the in thing. However, with the ‘usual’ phones from companies like Elephone already being mostly from the affordable category, what would you expect from the new sub-brand? Better build? Better software support? Or just a very cheap price?

Aggressive flash pre-sales and marketing so they can build phones to sell.

And, that is pretty awfull name for a phone – Trunk.

Already an improvement. Just last year, Chinese phone makers had only 2 vocabs, Namely : “One” and “S”.

so they’re doing blog-trolling now? now that’s some fine marketing. makes you wonder how many of the “reviews” on some major chinese reseller sites are real. XD

I take all reviews with a grain of salt. Even in the US Apple, Google, Samsung and M$oft all have their paid lackies that moonlight as tech bloggers. The best reviews (of any product) are the ones that don’t overly praise or criticize a product, but instead point out its strengths and weaknesses.

They are aiming to launch 365 flagships per year. But there will be a delay in each launch, obviously. Oh and after launch, there will be a delay in shipping. So a low price is logical – you actally buy a phone today, which will be long outdated when you actually receive it. For the price you paid you could buy last year’s Samsung or LG flagship.

Trunk … thats a funny name for a brand/sub-brand. Soon we will see a sub-brand named “ROOT” too … lol.

They are most probably alluding to an Elephant’s trunk. Eleph..ant – Eleph..one
Next sub-brand will be “Peanut”, cos an Elephone’s gotta eat!

    How they survive at all?

    • Ron Tikva
      July 15, 2015

They survive by taking you money today to produce the phones they sold 3 months ago. You will get your phone after they make their first sales of the phone they’ll announce 3 months from now.

I really wish someone could do an article on all the snapdragon powered best smartphones for China that would work internationally in places like the US…. Elephone Trunk definitely looks good on those grounds 🙂
