OnePlus 2 will have a 13MP laser-focus enabled camera

OnePlus may have stopped revealing crucial specs of their upcoming OnePlus 2 smartphone, but the company has ensured it stays in the news regardless.

This time round, Marques Brownlee (the man behind the MKBHD YouTube channel) was supplied with a OnePlus 2, the camera review of which he just posted. As Marques mentions (and as you can conclude), there’s nothing groundbreaking about the OnePlus 2 camera but it is at the same time a pretty decent performer.

What you might want to look out for though is the part where the focus speeds of the camera is shown — its pretty darn fast, and that’s possible only because of the laser autofocus that the phone possesses.

Also, the video reveals that the camera has an aperture of f/2.0, which honestly is a little disappointing because its been a while since phones started being shipped with larger aperture lenses such as f/1.8.

You guys missed the biggest news today, the Xiaomi plus Li-Ning smart shoes, as basic and pointless as those things might be.

Photo samples look as good as the LeTV Le1 which only costs 1499 Yuan. I think the Le1 has a very good camera, but hoped the Op2 would offer more….

So, for around 450$ we get metal build, overheating CPU and not at all impressive camera.
We also get 4GB RAM and good build quality, but I just don’t see that a flagship killer …

Disapointed. 449$. For overheating soc. Non expandable storage.
That price is probably for the base model. 16gb i guess.
And Now a camera thats not even anywhere near flagship grade. Honor 7 has 20mp f/2.0. 1/2.4 inch sensor. While this OP2 has same 13mp 1/3.06 inch sensor.
For 449$. we can get honor 7 with more storage and better camera.
If this is the final spec. of OP2. Then im done. They settled.

  Why does anyone thinks it will cost 450$? I remember the OnePlus One, it was priced much lower than anyone expected. Anyway, about the camera: I saw the sample photos, not so impressive: waaay too much post-processing. I honestly like OnePlus One photos, they have some noise, but so much fine details in them. Hopefully it was just a pre-release software, because I was looking at the foliage in those photos, and thinking: man it looks like oil-painting, that’s how aggressive the post-processing is. To be fair though, the photos showed good colours and dynamic range, and decent low light.

    Beacuse they said it will be less than 450$.
    Last time they said it will a flagship under 300$. And launched OPO 16gb for 299$.
    Judging by the same. I would guess the base model this year would cost 449$. Weather the base model has 16gb or 32gb internal storage, who knows. Im not even sure about the base model having 4gb lpddr4. They might have a base model with only 3gb lpddr4. Few benchmark leaks have suggested a 3gb ram model.
    Lets wait till launch for last opinion but seems like Meizu Mx5 and Honor 7 are better option. If you want more premium, Wait for Mx5 Pro.

Sounds like an MX5 with a worse SoC, worse OS and for more money. No thanks.

  Only difference with other brands that update their existing phones is that 1+ gives a new number (1+ 2) and other simply add i or plus. These specs are for a device that is just an upgrade of the existing product and not really for a new flagship ‘killer’.
  I was really hoping that they would implement a higher resolution camera.

    Personally I don’t have a problem with the camera being the same. The 214 is still an amazing camera capable of taking amazing pictures. If they focus on improving the results from the 214 instead of always experimenting with something new it can lead to an ever better camera. Most pones never unlock the true potential of what a sensor can offer because they use it for one phone and then abandon it for something new. If they spent an entire development cycle improving their algorithms and software to work with that sensor, added better optics and laser focus (which is incredible for the LG G4) they can have one of the best cameras on the market.

      True story. I agree with your opinion but the problem with this is that the most companies want to launch more phones instead of focusing on such development points at the moment. I hope their choice of keeping the 214 sensor instead of upgrading it, is with the same idea behind it as you mentioned.

        Companies these days care more about the back of the box features and offering the latest tech. I would much rather they take exisitng products and just make them better. It has worked for Apple (and to a lesser extent Samsung) for years, one of the reasons they are so successful. Their customers know the product they are going to get is going to be strikingly similar to the previous model. Instead of drastically changing they look and specs of the phone they upgrade what is needed and improve their software for things that dont need to be updated. Apple has been using the same basic 8mp camera sensor for awhile now, every so often it gets minor updates. Their phone has one of the best cameras on any smartphone. Because they spent the time to figure it out and unlock its true potential.

        I didn’t want to mention Apple’s camera but since you did. Yes it has an amazing photo quality for the 8 mp it has on it.
        I just charged my Meizu mx4 again and tried some sample photos vs my Mi Note. I like the pictures coming from the Mi Note more than I like the Mx4 although its 21mp for the Mx4 vs the 13mp (214) of the Mi note. I don’t really know if this is the case for others but most of the time my Mi4 shoots better photos than the Mi Note. It probably is because of the Mi4 camera being a f/1.8 and the Mi Note camera being a f/2.0 (Might be my imagination though)

        MP can only take a camera so far. At this point it is mostly marketing. . There can be some advantages to more pixels but not always. What truly separates the cameras on phones today once you get past 8mp is: optics (lens used), aperture (how much light the sensor captures) and software. I had a Mi4 and using Lenovo Super Camera I can take some really good shots as long as there is plenty of light. Lowlight shots is one of the hardest things on a smart phone. Very few are good at it. For instance my girl has the Galaxy S6, the camera on that phone is incredible as long as their is plenty of light. If there is even a shadow in the way the results are horrible.

Perhaps teasers are all wrong … and the One +2 will be cheaper with specs unexpected and surprising … maybe … That feels intox!
