Bluboo X550 owners asked to keep an eye on the next OTA

I had bought the x550 for my son a few weeks ago.He is a teenager and his biggest problem with phones he has had before (eg HTC One X) was the fact that the battery would run out by the start of the evening. Anyone else with teenagers will know how much they are on their phone. So the Bluboo looked like a good choice.

Initial impressions were good and the battery is certainly up to the job. It was also pretty easy to root the phone and therefore install viper4android which massively improved the audio through headphones. Unfortunately, after a few days the SD card kept disconnecting and reconnecting and after a few hours of that it gave up all together. This appears to be an issue with the SD card holder on the phone. I had tried all the usual tricks such as sticky tape on the reverse side of the SD card but nothing worked. Looking at the Bluboo thread on XDA showed that this seemed to be an issue that other users were experiencing as well. I had asked about it on Bluboo’s FB page and they replied saying they know there is an issue but offered no solution.

So unfortunately I had to send the phone back under warranty and get a refund. I suspect the phone we had was one of the first off the production line as we bought on pre-sale so I don’t know how common this issue is with any subsequent production batches but I saw nothing on Bluboo’s FB page that indicated this was an isolated issue.

In the end I went for an iNew L4. Very similar specs but with a 5000mah battery and only 1GB of RAM. So far it is working ok and the SD card holder is behaving but the drop to 1GB of RAM is noticeable.

Interestingly,the build and design of the 2 phones are very very similar including the style of the battery and the arrangement of the SIM and SD cards so I am half expecting SD card issues in the future.

I have also ordered a VKworld vk6050s. Again, a very similar phone in terms of specs and design but this one states a battery of 6050mah, and the ‘S’ model has 2GB ram rather than the standard 1GB.

One thing that has confused me is that I had read somewhere that the Bluboo uses the MTK 6735P and the iNew and the VK6050s are listed as using the 6735M clocked at 1.0GHZ. I thought I had read that the P variant has a higher clock speed which would indicate that the Bluboo is superior than the other 2 phones. However, many sites list the Bluboo as having 6735M and indeed the scatter file that comes with the Bluboo ROM is for 6735M. Can anyone shed some clarity on this?
