Elephone releasing Android 5.1 source code for P8000

elephone p8000 source code

Elephone may well be the first company to ever release the source code for a Mediatek Chinese phone with P8000 code available soon and the hunt for developers now on.

You should all probably be aware now that Elephone aren’t your usual Chinese phone maker. They tent to launch handfuls of phones at a time and were one of the first Chinese phone makers to bring alternate ROMs to their Mediatek powered phones.

Continuing on from this, Elephone have revealed that they will be releasing the Kernel source code for the Elephone P8000. The P8000 is a 5.5-inch FHD phone with octacore Mediatek chip, 3GB RAM and runs Android 5.1 out of the box. The release of source code will allow developers to build their own ROMS for the phone either based on things like CyanogenMod or even a whole new system of their dreams.

Elephone are also taking the opportunity to seek our developers who are interested in Joining Elephone to build custom ROMS. Those who are invested are asked to send their details to Elephone via the recruitment page here.

Nice, did any other Chinese smartphone maker released sources for MTK device ever? Really good move from Elephone.

Yes. If we’re talking about kernels sources, Lenovo release kernel sources for their devices on the official page. They sometimes upload messed sources though.
This on the screenshot is the whole rom source, including kernel, but I don’t think they will release everything in public. The ROM source will be available to those developers who want to work for free and sign NDA. There are other devs working with private sources for other devices.

Great news, but for now “This repository is empty”. I hope they will publish it soon.

LOL, they NEED independent developers to optimize their roms.

Sorry for the newbie question but, does it mean that for every smartphone with the same soc should be possible to develop ROMs ?
