OnePlus 2 night photo samples compared to iPhone 6 looking very impressive

Ahead of the official launch of the OnePlus 2, company boss Pete Lau has released a few night photos taken with the OP2 at night, and the results are might impressive.

The OnePlus One is a mighty package even when compared to phones launched this year, but it wasn’t completely perfect. The 13 mega-pixel camera, a Sony IMX214 sensor, is a good performer in general, but on the OPO low light images are a bit of a weakness.

As with most phones the less light there is the more noise the camera lets in, but for the OnePlus 2 things have been greatly improved and the results are very encouraging.

OP CEO, Pete Lau posted night photo samples taken with the OnePlus 2 on Weibo this morning showing the performance of the companies new flagship when compared to the iPhone 6. The few samples which were shared show that the OP2 captures a more natural light and seems to have less noise than the iP6 camera.

So far we understand the camera on the OP2 is a 13 mega-pixel sensor with F2.0 aperture and PDAF feature. As for the camera app we are unsure if these night photos are taken using the default mode or a special night mode or HD Photo mode as found in Oppo’s ColorOS that might have made its way across to the OP2.

If these are real they are very impressive but I learned a long time ago not to believe the pictures taken by the company. Especially a company as “trustworthy” as One Plus lol.

    Thanks for the tip. I downloaded and noticed that OP2 has less noise indeed, but that’s due to much more aggressive post-processing / noise reduction. That means that OP2’s photos are also softer looking.

Didn’t MKBHD already reviewed the camera on the new oneplus 2 and he said it was decent for it’s probable price range.
Lets call it how it is, so far the only true great performing camera phones have been expensive.

  For the most part the best are expensive but you can find some very good ones for under $300. In fact one of the best camera phones of last year was the Gionee Elife E7 and it can be purchased for as little as $170. It doesn’t have LTE and it has last years tech, but the camera is excellent.

    I can confirm what you’re saying, as i’m writing from an E7 and i use it to take many pictures, and their quality level is pretty damn high! I’m impressed with the sharpness of pics, even in low light conditions it always get his job done!
    But we must consider that the launch price of E7 was like the double of the actual price, so it was expensive indeed… 😀

As I can’t download the original file(need to open an account, but don’t understand chinese), don’t know the exposure time. They are claiming the photos were taken in auto mode. I have doubt though.

Any in camera image stablerizer? Thinking of buy new phone because my Nexus5 camera take pictures or record video like shits, especially after updated to lollipop.
What about the panorama mode? Decent?

Not sure about those photos. Especially from the founder. I trust a neutral critic. On YouTube, there’s a video comparing the camera next to the major phones as well as the One Plus One. The pictures dont show a significant increase in quality. Not having physical OIS is a big blow. Also, this comparison is pointless. In Sep Apple is announcing the Iphone 6s which is supposedly going to kill with their new camera. The One plus two “might” have a comparable low light camera for two months before Apple release their new phone.

  I don’t trust the founder, obviously. But we shouldn’t trust a review of an unlunched phone either. We should wait for the final product with a stable rom, insted.

  i don’t think bringing Apple to the table is fair.
  it’s a different concept, Android users might never be potential Apple customers and vice versa.
  and whoever approaches Chinese phones (for better price/quality ratio) won’t even consider Apple as an alternative.
  all those promotional campaigns are meant as a competition between Android phone makers.
