elephone vowney hands on video

First hands on video of the Elephone Vowney flagship show off the phones design and fingerprint function.

Elephone aren’t a company that likes to keep its fans guessing, that’s the reason we already knew all the specifications of the 2K flagship months ago, way before an actual working prototype was ever seen.

The following video is the first time the Medaitek flagship has been seen as a working device, and shows the phones design and fingerprint scanner function.

Elephone didn’t supply any additional information with the video so we can assume the the original hardware specifications for the phone have remained unchanged during the past few months of development.

Gizchina News of the week

The Elephone Vowney will be the first 2K resultion Elephone phone on the market, and only one of a very few phones with such a high resolution on a small 5-inch display. The phone also boasts a Mediatek MT6795 chipset, 21 mega-pixel Sony IMX230 main camera, 8 mega-pixel front, 4GB RAM and NFC.

A couple of resellers are already listing the Elephone Vowney at a cost of just $299, which is a fairly amazing deal for such a well equipped phone, but it remains to be seen if this is the final price.

Speaking of price, Elephone are currently offering the Elephone P8000 and P6000 Pro at heavily discounted prices. More details of the offer can be found here.

What do you mean? Black wallpaper? Not worth $300?

I am confused. You quote a 5″ display but other sources say 5.5″. Have Elephone stated the size as 5″ or could they be offering 2 alternative sizes possibly?

Seems like there are two options.

Well I still don’t see the point in 2K , even at 5.5 … so yeah another with flashy specs.

You and me both. It’s nothing but a waste of battery to me, a good FHD screen looks just as good to me.

Last week Synaptics announced the first display driver for 4k mobile displays, meaning 4k is about to arrive.

So, you know, have fun with that.

Nah thanks, I’ll just wait for the first 7 inch 8K smartphone… shouldn’t take too long as even 4K won’t have the needed wow factor soon enough.

The good part is that glasses do need much higher res and the res race in phones will enable that at good prices.

        July 28, 2015

4k is utterly useless on a mobile phone. A FHD displays serves best as well as it’s good a t conserving battery life which is a top priority with most phones.

MT6795=480, IMX230 can do to 480, just the factory Elephone denied it, i think…

              right, but have 1 year old video.. and still not have smartphone features 480fps record. (MT6795 = mx5 (100fps) = letv x600 = (120fps)

              HTC E9+ (120fps) ……. both 720p

The limiting factor is not the cpu but the storage write speeds. You need very high write speeds for this and that is expensive and needed only for the high speed capture that not to many people care about

So they want to put this device against the mx5
    The specs they promised :
    Intel Processor
    Dual boot Windows + Android
    4 gb of Rm
most likely 6 inch as they said when it was WIP
another device which will be launched “much later” with helio x10 and 3 gb of ram

Well another overhyped device in the endless list of elephone “flagship” devices p7000,p8000 etc.

    • July 25, 2015

There are set to be 2 versions of the vowney (was always said from the beginning ) one will feature mediatek Soc the other will have an Intel Soc (this one will be released later in the year).

What, no USB C? Not interested then! Lol nice to see they’ve kept those ugly black bars around the screen, seems they haven’t learnt anything.

  12. July 24, 2015

I would not even pay 100$ for that crap.

Not sure i like the look of it… I have the p7000 and i do quite like the design of it, but the black band with onscreen buttons doesnt do it for me. Plus, if the screen on it is as cheap and nasty as the one in my p7000 it will have white spots all over it within a week

    • E8hffff
      July 25, 2015

What’s so special about not having bands on the side. If the screen went all the way tot he sides that would mean you couldn’t touch the edge else you’d upset the interaction you want.

      • The Special Juan
        July 25, 2015

I was referring to the black band at the bottom of the screen containing the buttons. Not the black border surrounding the whole screen. My own preference would be for capacitive touch buttons in the same style as on the p7000 and p8000, rather than the big thick black band as shown in the video

    • David
      July 26, 2015

      Thank you for your info.
What do you mean by white spots on the screen of your P7000?

      • The Special Juan
        July 26, 2015

The p7000 screen itself seems to be of poor quality, and after a month of use, despite using both a tempered glass screen protector and the S view case, the screen appears damaged in 3 or 4 places. This results in white/light spots on the screen which are noticeable when looking at a light colour/page. This is the same problem as reported on this the thread int he following link: http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-6427-1-1.html#.VbT-VEIVA04

I guess it would be covered under warranty, but the hassle of fighting for a refund/replacement and sending the phone back to China just doesn’t seem worth the hassle! I am awaiting my new MX5 which will replace the P7000, so not much longer to have to put up with it.

I have bought 3 ECOO AURORAs, 2 e04 2gb and 1 3gb wich is my daiy driver…. Perfect to me WOULD be: on the same 5.5¨ looking Aurora device: OIS Camera with better software to control the camera output, 2 color LED notification (with White being able to serve as selfie complement), 4400+mah Battery, the SAME place of the fingerPRINT reader but icrease the size up to a meizu mx5 home button size for it, (i DO like the swaping thing, i feel it is more secure) and an update to the android that would let the backgroung of the appDrawer to be transparent.!!! ufff what a machine would that be… and i thit it would be very nice to ask $ 189.99 for ir at this times… but that is just my guess.
