No SD card slot <———– lol, useless

No NFC = not future proof.

Can you expand your comment? What is the relation between ‘NFC’ and ‘future’? Do you use NFC on a daily basis? Are you talking about “payment” aso? Are you living in USA (only) ?

      • balcobomber25
        July 28, 2015

I can honestly say I have never used NFC on a phone and I don’t know anyone who has either.

        • July 28, 2015

          Check out @oneplus’s Tweet: https://twitter.com/oneplus/status/625882989935882240?s=01

When they claim op2 is “future proof” then i don’t talk about today, tomorrow, or this week. I talk about “future” when they also claim “2016 flagship killer”.

Apple has done much things to make nfc payment become a trend in usa, google wallet and samsung pay also play some roles. So, do you think in 2016 people will still say “I have never used NFC on a phone and I don’t know anyone who has either.”?

It’s like qualcomm said “octacore in a phone is ridiculous and useless” then they make snapdragon 610/615. I talk about future and you talk about today and yesterday so our discussion will never met if you still think about these days.

You do realize the world exists outside of Apple and the US? In most countries in the world NFC is completely non existent. Even in the US I don’t know a single person who actually uses it.

            • July 28, 2015

I do realize, even i am from indonesia and i can’t say no one i know using nfc. I myself using nfc to pair e-toll card to use in in inner/outer ring road toll. So in the future i can’t say people won’t need the nfc.

              http://www.androidauthority.com/features-oneplus-2-missing-629244/

Funny enough, they are using cardboard from google for launhcing vr, which google reference its cardboard to use nfc for their vr launcher app.

People probably will use it in the future, but will a majority of people use it? I just dont see it happening.

I think that you misunderstood me: when I said “useless”, it was like “un-needed” or “I don’t care it’s missing” 😀

Fast Charging is amazing once you actually have it on a device.

            July 28, 2015

I am not that on my nerves 🙂 Just check your battery level on time and do appropriate charging 🙂
Furthermore, nothing so far has been studied about battery life+fast charge: I’m not sure it’s a winning couple…

            • balcobomber25
              July 28, 2015

In four days of usage with the MX5 I haven’t seen any difference in battery life compared to my old Mi4. If anything it’s a little better. I don’t need to check my battery level anymore, I can just plug it in while I am getting ready for work, and when I leave I have a full charge.

            • MaxPower
              July 28, 2015

I’m sure the fast charging kills the battery but average people change their phones every 2 years (soon close to one year) so it shouldn’t be a problem.

        • Kenshiro
          July 28, 2015

          😉 But I use both 🙂

    • MaxPower
      July 28, 2015

agree with you but for someone like me who completely replaced his laptop, camera, gps with his phone, then fast charging can compensate the lack of removable and relative small batteries.

      one example over anything.
I love my gps app (waze) that i use daily because it tells me the road conditions (dead deers, ambushed cops) live.
if i plug my phone with a 1A charger and that app running the battery level decreases.

by the time i make it to work the phone is dead, and it’s still morning :-p

      i really need that feature.
i don’t care of the rest honestly, the phone seems a good deal for the money.

    July 28, 2015

Disappointed with the design and size (too big for me but this is personally of course). The lack of SD-card slot does not help and neither does the invite system. Specs and price are fine imo, depending on how much the SD810 overheats.

  6. nilinaxolotl

Buttt still, probably I will buy it.

  7. Lukas
    July 28, 2015

though i am little disappointed by euro prices, wooden back cover really got me and i will survive that ugly fingerprint scanner for it. if i manage to get my hands on invite for 16gb version and the reviews will be fine i might buy it. I plan to buy a new phone around september and it looks like it will be fight between mx5 and op2

  8. July 28, 2015

    No, i won’t buy it.

The “No NFC” was a deal breaker for me. I don’t use NFC regularly. But, for “2016 flagship killer”, i don’t think having NFC is useless next year as apple and samsung and google already start nfc payment this year, so next year maybe a boom for nfc payment. That again proving that op2 is not “future proof” as promoted. And what the hell with fast charging disabilities?! Are you live in 2014? Better say 2014 flagship killer anyway.

    • balcobomber25
      July 28, 2015

People have been saying “next year will be a boom for NFC” for about 5 years now and so far it hasn’t happened. Recent reports suggest 85% of Iphone 6 users have never even attempted to use Apple Pay. Less than 5% of all NFC equipped phones are being used for mobile payments. So while some people are using it, most aren’t and analysts don’t expect those numbers to change much over the next year.

But don’t forget the world is a lot bigger than the US and for many countries around the world NFC is useless.

    • SnowyCat
      July 28, 2015

in europe actually nobody started nfc payment that far so for me that feature is rather pointless but yes thats just me

Sorry. Ugly or definitely not sexy design, too heavy, fat, big bezels, no SD, no quick charging, screen just OK, almost stock Android.

If you buy phones with your brain, it might be a way to go.

One thing that i learned from buying international MX4 for 450$ is that it’s not worth it. I would like to stay under 200$ for some time.

    • balcobomber25
      July 29, 2015

You got ripped off if you paid that much for an MX4. Even the newest MX5 isn’t selling for that much on many resellers.

      • Stiven
        July 29, 2015

It was the price for international version, with DHL and taxes included. i bought it directly from Meizu store.

        • balcobomber25
          July 29, 2015

Meizu store for some reason is always over priced, it’s funny because there retail stores are so cheap. But even for $450 the MX4 was still offering flagship specs found in phones that the time cost over $600. So while you could have got it for cheaper it was still good deal compared to the Samsungs.

        July 28, 2015

which it hasn’t for the the o+1 so my bet is the 2 will be of equally disappointing sales… other companies shift that in a week what they did in 16 months and its not cause of the non existing demand but also cause they actually not even barely recognised in chinas mobile phone market. no one knows them

    • luke

don’t know a single person in China who either knows OPO or gives a rat’s rear end. This company created attention mostly with enthusiastic folks outside China. Here in China the company doesn’t come with any cache or prestige nor the eco system like xiaomi or huawei. Despite their big mouthing announcements. U ain’t a flagship beater if no one really knows or cares about u. It’s David vs Goliath whilst one+ is the sort of David replacement never ever even showing up to be benched

    • bojan radovanovic
      July 28, 2015

      but you know about OPPO!?

that is, if you know anything about smartphones…but i think you don’t. (and please, dont talk about Sammy and Apple, or Lenovo and Huawei).

and i think you don’t know many people, as it is possible that you don’t have much friends, so you don’t hav no one to talk about smartphones….
to such a conclusion I came because they did sell a LOT of devices in China, and if you never heard of them…well, it more possibile that it is up to you.

of corse, they are not big as Xiaomi is (6. largest on world, and 3. in China),not as Coolpad, or even VIVO are, but anyone who is following smartpone market knows about them.

      so, inform yourself:

“As of the end of 2014, the OnePlus One has sold over one million units, despite only planning on selling up to 50,000 units. The East Asian market accounted for 39% of the company’s shipments in 2014, followed by Europe with 33%, 22% in North America, and 7% in India. In total, the device generated a total revenue of $300 million through December 2014,”

so, at least 400 000 units of One+1 was sold in east Asia.
if you don’t know anyone with it, dude…just go back to play with Barbie dolls, put pictures on Instagram of yourself playing with them, it is obvious smartphones is not point of your interests

Bok Bojan, lets just assume u know me since u started all that guess-work and so. Let’s also assume you maybe missed the last 11 years since when i moved to China (tip, im still in China), possibly you even didn’t know that i not just speak the language but also been working in and with the ICT industry there and at least affiliated to all the companies you mentioned but VIVO.

Also knowing my linkedin profile you may have spotted that i know several OPPO/OPO folks and most of them actually have an US branded phone outside and often inside their offices.

Let me mention that i do indeed know a rather extensive number of chinese, some of them being directors in companies mentioned before.

Guess what.. you comment doesn’t even come close to anything and… OPO is indeed as famous as any Kruškovača producer in China.. take care mate… time to catch up but you better be Chinese or in China

No kidding, I’ve also been in China for almost a decade now (full time, not in and out on business) and I absolutely can’t stand people on forums here thinking they know or understand the Chinese market better than us. There’s a couple of them here.

          • RiverHorser
            July 29, 2015

gotcha, that Bojanic sounded all too much marketing trollish. The hard truth is that opo/OPPO is just not a big thing in China.
Lower income folks go for the odd Coolpad/Huawei and even xiaomi phones whilst those who can or can’t afford but need the 面子boost a fruit cheering phone oozes… the OPx is doesn’t come with any cache to warrant a big price tag. Nor are they seen as hip. The Chinese market operates very different to western markets hence the likes of Xiaomi unable yet to push for western markets

          Yes dude, bravo za tebe.
As i see, a lot of people writing about it, a lot of webpages, forums, a lot of things about it from Chinese sources…. And if you didn’t hear of it, it tells more about how deep are you in job you doing.
And, no… I did not google about you. I don’t care who you are, it’s enough to know how much you know about phones, so i don’t need to read more of your “knowledge”. Just go, use Apple…i know you like it

Never personally liked the OP1 either design, size nor UI nor they way they sell. Also hate the OPPO brand. But OP2 is definitely a improvement in design and UI. And certainly seems better after official release than what was known about the device and the ugly tenaa images. But no, wont be buying it.

  15. Guaire
    July 28, 2015

Yes, I did. I thought its back is worst part of the design, now seems best part. Actually I liked it, especially black one seems good. Unfortunately front looks still ugly.

I didn’t like nonexistent improvement over display to body ratio and it’s still thick as OPO. Worse it’s heavier.

    Price is not bad.

Back camera specs seems pretty impressive. It seems to me best part of the phone.

16GB storage without Micro SD slot is a flagship killer.

Lack of fast charging is another huge mistake.

We will see how they dealed with SD810.

    • nilinaxolotl

  17. Ruby
    July 28, 2015

I can still get between $260-280 for my mint condition OnePlus One on Swappa. So for $100 more to upgrade to the ‘2’, it’s a no brainer. I can’t think of another flagship smartphone that has kept such a high resale value 16 months after it was launched.

    • balcobomber25
      July 29, 2015

The most recent prices on Swappa are $227 for the 16GB model and $265 for the 64GB. If you can get someone to pay $280 do it, because that person is not that bright seeing as you can buy a brand new one for $289.

      • Ruby
        July 29, 2015

The price for a new 64GB version on the OnePlus web site is $300 + $21 for express shipping to Cleveland, OH. Perhaps one can save $10 buying it on AliExpress but he’d have to wait a >month for shipping and take the risk of getting a Chinese clone or worse – with no recourse. The prices you looked at are generally not for a MINT condx device. My point is that even at $265, the resale value is outstanding. What will your MX-5 be worth in 16 months?

Where are the AnTuTu scores? Has this gone past the 65,000 mark? I tired of my current phones which scores a measly ~45,000. Need a close-to-70k-AnTuTu phone, and the S6 is too expensive.

    • July 28, 2015

Quick question, what is it exactly that you need it to score close to 70k in antutu for? It’s a benchmark app that you will possibly run a few times in the life of your phone.
what apps and games are you running that cannot be handled by a phone hitting 45k?
I am interested to hear what you need it for as I think we are all becoming caught up by the need to show how big our dicks are via our phones lol.

would you rather buy a phone because it hit 70k in a benchmark app, or would you buy a phone that was nicely optimised with lower specs but in everyday use felt much faster and ran cooler with better battery life?

      • balcobomber25
        July 28, 2015

A lot of people think a silly little score tells them something about the performance of the phone.

    • balcobomber25
      July 28, 2015

There is no phone with a close to 70k score accept the S6. Having used the S6 though there is no performance difference in actual usage to my MX5 which I think scores in the 50’s (don’t really know because benchmarks are useless to me).

      • bojan radovanovic
        July 28, 2015

SGS6 and all the same SGS6 edge, is shoving 10 000 antutu points difference.
so, it shows how good antutu is

        • balcobomber25
          July 28, 2015

Exactly. Antutu should be used in conjuction with every other benchmark. As a single unit it tells you very little, combined with Geekbench, Quadrant and the rest it is a starting measure for performance. But none of those tests will ever tell you about the real world usage of the phone, just the simulated usage.

I am in love with this phone. I have yet to find a single issue with it, which is big for me because usually I can find something I dont like in just about every phone. The Helios X10 is incredible, handles everything I throw at it and never slows down or overheats.

Good to know you rate so highly…look forward to getting my hands on mine (even if only to see if fastcardtech have genuinely sent me the 32gb version! – never quite sure with them!). My own view is that the MX5 should be getting more press as a “flagship killer” rather than the OP2…

I just really wouldn’t buy anything with a Snapdragon 810 inside … I’d rather wait for cheaper models with Helio X20 which should be out soon.

    • balcobomber25
      July 29, 2015

To be fair there won’t be much cheaper phones than this. The Helios X10 powered Meizu MX5 is one exception as there phones are always cheaper than the competition but that is only if you can buy it from them. Buying from a reseller you will pay a minimum of $329 for the MX5, same price as the OPO.

      • Marius Cirsta
        July 29, 2015

Well the Helio X10 powered Letv One is $270 with shipping included on Aliexpress so that is cheaper and I can buy it today without any invite or anything else.
I’m guessing Helio X20 phones will be around that same price and I think there will be more model powered by Helio X20 than there are with Helio X10.

One more thing, The OPO 2 is $400 from a reseller ( pandawill ) … I’d call their $330 price a bit fakish as you’ll probably end up paying more unless you can get one of those invites and stuff. Also let’s not forget that internation shipping isn’t really included in that price so … it’s about $400. My limit for a phone is usually around $200 and I can find good phones for that price. You can even find good ones at $150 like the TCL 3S.

        • balcobomber25
          July 29, 2015

You can buy it and you won’t have a fingerprint sensor which One Plus has and it won’t be available in any color other than white. Also you won’t have nearly the support that you get when you buy a One Plus. I am not defending OP, I really don’t like them. A phone that offers anything close to what the One Plus does in terms of specs and support is going to cost you at least $300. If you can’t get an invite the One Plus is not a good deal at all because resellers will overprice it. But if you can pay $329 it is a tremendous value.

Helio X20 phones wont be around for quite sometime, the X10 is still a brand new SoC and still being announced in devices. Bluboo just announced a phone with it and Elephone has one coming out.

          • Marius Cirsta
            July 29, 2015

No problem then, I’ll just wait. My LG E975 is still fine for now, nothing major to complain about except battery performance.

I really do want a Helio X20 or an Intel SOC but not with PowerVR graphics. I’m hoping if Intel can provide something it will offer much more flexibility than ARM SOCs.

Again it’s not really $330 if shipping is not included any idea how much that costs ? It might raise the price quite a bit.

            • balcobomber25
              July 29, 2015

No idea how much Oneplus charges for shipping. The PowerVR isn’t that great on paper but I have tried every demanding game on my MX5 (Asphalt, Real Racing, Modern Combat and Dead Trigger etc) and had no issues playing any of them. Never had any lag, overheating or frame rate issues.

            • Marius Cirsta
              July 29, 2015

It’s not performance I’m worried about, it’s drivers actually. With an Intel SOC you can pretty much run any version of Android ( with any kernel ) but then you hit the GPU drivers problem.
If it’s an Intel GPU then no problem as those have good support both in the kernel and in Mesa. This make these kinds of SOCs very easy to upgrade to any Android version ( at least in theory )

Mediatek is bad about releasing source code. And the developer community isn’t that big for Meizu. If you don’t like Flyme (or Ubuntu ) it’s probably not the best option for you.

you seem to know a lot about these phones… I have bought an OPO for my son and it is very good. As for Myself I was waiting for the OPT but left dry with all the hype and not inspiring specs (they are good but nothing special) adding to that the invite system and that they do not ship to Australia. I’m looking at MX5 Mi 5, elephone woveney, Moto x and now the zuk z1. I want a quick phone with a good camera good OS and relatively long lifespan… any advise?

I just posted my initial reactions to the MX5 on the Gizchina Forum. As for the other phones, Elephone has had a lot of issues with the phones they release. I would not put my faith in the Vowney to last long. My prior phone was a Mi4 and it was excellent. Moto X and Zuk are both Lenovo brands. Lenovo makes excellent phones and has very good customer service. I would wait for the Zuk to come out though and read some reviews.

A review is in the process. I don’t like to do reviews until I have had at least a few weeks with a device. Right now I am loving this phone, but that is just initial impressions, I need some more in depth testing. But based on a few days of usage:

Camera – good with stock app, excellent with Open Camera
Processor – amazing, has handled everything I have thrown at it, never slows down or overheats.
Storage – have about 11.5 GB of free space, OTG has worked perfectly
Build Quality – excellent, doesn’t bend and is extremely durable.
Display – one of the best Amoled’s I have used. My wife has a Galaxy S6 which has an incredible display. This one is only slightly worse than hers.

Since your wife has an S6, can you compare both cameras? Which one is better in low light? The S6 isn’t as good in low light as reviewers say, it’s so over processed and ugly. How is the MX5?
Also, is it a reliable phone? any crashes, hardware issues, etc?

Edit: Does the MX5 support RAW? what about Manual shutter speed and ISO?

old 13mpx omnivision ?… no nfc…. no fastcharge… why $390 ? awaiting elephone vowney or P9000 (Hx20)…. my Nokia L1020 still good and innovator since 2013.

    • balcobomber25
      July 28, 2015

If they use the same sensor as the One it is a Sony IMX 214. If they use Omnivision all of their 13mp sensors are just as good as the Sony, some are even better. $390 for a 64 GB phone with 4 GB of RAM is a steal these days. Elephone has yet to make a good flagship phone, what makes you think that will suddenly change?

      • xi7
        July 28, 2015

        vowney have imx230(21mpx) and p9000 have ominivion 23850 (23mpx)

        • balcobomber25
          July 28, 2015

The sensor means very little if they don’t use it properly. Just using a 20+ MP sensor isnt going to give you better pictures. It needs to be accompanied by good software and good optics. The OP2 has both of those as well as OIS and laser focus. It will take better pictures than both of those, I would bet money on it.

The best camera phone currently available is the Iphone 6 which has an 8mp sensor. It is the standard to which everything else is judged. It is so good because Apple has incredible software working behind the scenes of their camera and has amazing optics.

          • xi7
            July 28, 2015

            iphone 6 have imx220 right ? i cant see best with high price…. lose vs galaxy s6 (imx240)…. but iphone software makes the difference (iphone)…. op2 = ov13850 , vowney = ov23850. $289

            • balcobomber25
              July 28, 2015

Iphone 6 has an 8mp sensor. Depending on where you live that sensor could come from Sony or Omnivision. But it really doesn’t matter because Apple has it optimized perfectly that both take amazing photos.

            • xi7
              July 28, 2015

also manage to stay with 1gb ram… opo is not Apple… so, default software I choose better hardware. (low cost best hardware = vowney)

            • balcobomber25
              July 28, 2015

Thats your right as a consumer and trust me I am not a fan of One Plus in any ways. But between them and Elephone it’s not even close. Elephone uses the right hardware but their quality is horrible and their software is a mess. Horrible software can kill the best hardware.

            • The Special Juan
              July 28, 2015

If apple can optimise an 8mp sensor so brilliantly, why can’t others do the same? bloody annoying!

            • balcobomber25
              July 28, 2015

Because Apple actually takes the time to learn how to maximize every component in their phones. They don’t use a new sensor with each new phone and abandon the old one. It is what Meizu did this year with the MX5 they rewrote all the algorithms for the sensor and the result is the same sensor as the MX4 but with even better results. Apple also uses very good lenses (optics) on their phones which makes a big difference.

The LG G4 is the current best camera phone. It beats all of them in low light and daylight thanks to its excellent post processing. Too bad the phone is riddled with bugs and touch screen issues.
Or if you want, I can say that the best of the best (lol) is the Panasonic CM1 but then that’s in another league thanks to its 1 in. sensor. Very expensive phone though (over $1100).

            • balcobomber25
              July 31, 2015

The G4 is very good but I wouldn’t say it is the best of the best. I would say the iPhone 6 is the best available right now. I hate iPhone but it is truly incredible what they have done with their camera.

            • Ramsey
              July 31, 2015

Rest assured then, according to samples and tests from people comparing those phones, the G4 is better than the iPhone 6 and 6+.
I don’t remember where I saw those but somewhere on xda and on the web. HTC One M9 in Raw mode also beats the iPhone 6(+).
I don’t hate iPhone, I admire what Apple is doing, though I don’t like some of their beliefs. But I do like their build quality and customer service that they offer.

            • balcobomber25
              July 31, 2015

I have seen more camera shootouts between the Iphone 6, G4 and S6 than I can stomach and with each one a different winner is chosen. It’s really just personal preference at this point as all have great cameras. Personally I think Apple has the best, you think LG does.

Having said that I am not an Apple fan in any way, shape or form. I just can respect them for what they have done with their software and camera. The only Apple product I would ever buy is a Macbook, because they are excellent laptops.

          July 28, 2015

Elephone used a sony 214 on my p7000, yet they paired this decent sensor with rubbish optics and poorly optimised software. Subsequently It takes comparable photos to the LG renoir I used 8 years ago! A properly optimised OV sensor with decent glass/lens will probably kick the ass of the Elephone Vowney

Most of 13MP sensors today are 1/3″, that one has larger 1/2.6″ sensor. It means larger pixels, consequently better low light performance, better picture quality. Omnivison listed a 13MP 1/2.6″ sensor, but it’s not clear whether or not it’s same sensor.

i kinda find it funny that people complain about a invite system while it usually took under 24 hours to get one jsut signing up on their forums and writen ah hello i’m x post

you never waited more than a day and then your ordered it..its not like it took less if you ordered any other phone and the + thing is you got that awesome community there thats really helpfull with all the custom roms and photo stuff and really nice topics to talk about..thats for me atleast the strong point i sold my oneplus one because it was kinda not so comfortable in the hand for me so i also wont go for the oneplus two..

i’m still active in the forums however and i dont get that invite system hate while it doesnt take longer than in literally any chinése online reseller store

    • balcobomber25
      July 29, 2015

If it was so easy to get one there wouldn’t be so many complaints on forums like these about it. For you it and others it apparently was easier, for most it wasn’t. I camped out on the forum for 3 days and never so much as sniffed an invite, I gave up and bought a Mi4 which I didn’t need an invite for and was able to buy that day. Took considerably less time for me to order my Mi4 than it did waiting for an invite that never appeared. I finally got offered an invite many months later after I had already bought my Mi4 and lost interest.

Just because you had good luck getting one doesn’t mean everyone did. I can point you to dozens of forums of people who camped out on the forums a lot longer than I did and never got one.

Many people here have been fooled into thinking the SD810 is a completely redesigned chip that One Plus is using and won’t suffer from the same problems. All phone shipping with 810 (including the HTC ONE and Sony phones that heat up badly) are using V2.1. These articles have an excellent write up on the subject:

Some what yes. Specially the 64GB one. But that moto x style looks tempting.

A lot of people say they won’t be buying this because they don’t like the invite system, but if they happen to get an invite I’m sure they will buy one anyway, because, why not? It’s a tremendous value. Being able to change the back cover is a nice option.

“2016 flagship killer”, i don’t know. But i know “2015 flagship killer” is ulefone Be Touch 2, maybe “2017 flagship killer” is Be Touch 4. Sorry, i live in 2015.

Ummm… the actual “flagship killer” for 2015 is the Motorola X Style.

Anyway, i’ll not buy a device with only 1Ghz CPU, and HD display. It will soon be out of time. Or i can say i has be outdated.

Definitely will choose Ulefone Be Touch 2. Because now everthing without a FHD display is a disaster.

    O.M.G, Thickness of 10mm, I can‘t accept, not big battery, 2013 flagship.

Yeah the phone’s OS is very inspiring, the most inspiring these years, perhaps will still be next year, but its industrial design has been out of time. Now no one will like a device with sharp corners. I my self am using Ulefone Be Touch 2. It may not be as powerful as OnePlus 2, but at least it looks beautiful, and the 1080P display is not bad, and it also has a fron fingerprint scanner.

Great, i use Ulefone Be Touch 2, too and i like it. And i may buy Oneplus 2 next year when it’s marked down.

Me, too with Ulefone Be Touch 2. But may not buy a new phone next year. I think Ulefone Be Touch 2 will be enough for me even in 2016. I’m not some game player. I don’t care about the clock speed

For the shape, it is more suitable for the older.

It’s not enough of an upgrade over the One for me to want to buy the OPT.

It’s their fault for making such a good device last year and doing such a mediocre job this year.

Ironically, the Moto X Style was announced at about the same time. It’s clearly the “flagship killer” for this cycle.

I won’t buy a oneplus phone because I want to be a customer and not a marketing too. Other phone makers wait for me to buy as and when I want to, as long they have stock they will sell. No need to fight with resellers and no need to be chosen (via invites) to own a phone which will likely be outdated in less than a year lol
