We’ve seen quite a few MT6752 powered phones come out of China, right from the JiaYu S3 to the Gionee Elife S7.
The NUU Z8, on the other hand, is a phone USA-bound. It comes with the same processor — the MT6752 — but boasts local USA availability. Besides that, the Z8 is also fully unlocked, which means you can use the device on any of the carriers that ply in the country.
The NUU Z8 has a 5.5-inch display with a full HD resolution, and along with that, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of ROM, a 13 mega-pixel rear camera and an 8 mega-pixel selfie snapper on the front.
Gizchina News of the week
“We are excited to offer our customers an unlocked phone that provides top quality specs, unmatched power and all the benefits of the Lollipop operating system, without forcing high prices or locked contracts on them,” said John Murtha, vice president of sales for NUU Mobile.
“The Z8 is our highest performing phone yet, and we are thrilled to deliver a fully-loaded smartphone that stays true to our commitment to freedom and flexibility.”
The device also supports dual SIM LTE, so if you tend to travel a lot (or one SIM just doesn’t cut it), the additional slot could be a handy addition.
It is priced on the higher side though, with a US$299 price tag. The NUU Z8 will be available via Amazon, Best Buy, Target, among others in the coming days.
the overall price is not bad considering that with this kind of hardware you pay at least 200$ in China.
this one has 32GB, LTE and local support.
the problem is that 300$ for an unlocked budget phone is too much in the US.
the Moto G was a best buy for about 180$.
i don’t think people are willing to pay more than 200$ for an unlocked phone.
The problems with the US market is subsidizing. The demand for unlocked phones is lower than most countries because people can get a Samsung or LG Flagship for free or under $100. You pay more in the long run but the initial costs is all most people look at. I can’t see too many people paying $300 for a brand they never heard of. Blu has done very well in the unlocked market. For them it took years to establish their brand ans most of their phones are under $200.
Regardless of which country you reside in, you’d have to be an awfully big OnePlus hater to choose the Z8 over the OP1. At the same $299 price point the OP1 gets you an overall faster SoC, more RAM, double the storage, better build-quality, backlit capacitive buttons (in the photo the Z8’s buttons appear etched), dual-speakers, dual-flash, amazing battery life, and ROM/customization options up the wazoo. The only advantage the Z8 appears to have is the 8MP front camera, which won’t mean much if it’s using a K-mart sensor (sorry, US reference).
Just because the One Plus is a great deal doesn’t mean that has to be peoples only option. People could very well choose this over the OP without being a hater for several reasons:
1. No invite needed to but it. You will be able to go to Best Buy, pay $299 and walk out with your phone.
2. MT6752 is not as powerful as the SD810, but there are no reports of it overheating.
3. 32GB storage vs 16GB.
4. Micro SD
5. Style – this phone is lighter and thinner than the OP2 and not nearly as ugly.
As for a “Kmart sensor” there has been no mention of who makes the sensor. Most likely it is an Omnivision who make most front facing sensors.
He was talking about OP 1 which no longer needs an invitation, doesn’t overheat and is also faster than this phone.
I missed the 1 in his comment my mistake. But even so you do realize not everyone has to be in love with the Oneplus One? It is a great phone, if you like it. If you don’t there are other choices and this is one of them.
The Oneplus has a slightly faster CPU (really not as much as you think it is), but it also an older 32 bit SoC whereas the 6752 is a 64 bit and for the moment is future proof. Anyone planning to keep their phone for a few years will eventually want a 64bit phone. Once Google solves the myriad of problems with Lollipop, 64 bit will be a huge advantage.
People chose to spend their money on what they like, you like the OnePlus. Personally I plan to eventually buy a Gionee S7 which has the same specs as this phone but costs almost twice as much. For me it is a much better value than either the Z8 or OnePlus. It doesn’t make people insane or stupid, it makes them consumers.
2 years warranty wriiten in their website….that kinda shows they’re confident with the quality…. btw, is that a notification light at the bottom of the phone? Coz if that is, this looks freakin cool….
Did you ever use a BLU phone..utterly rubbish….They just stop working in about 6 months…. i have been using NUU NU3S since January…a real solid phone that lacks LTE only…..
I have had two Blu Phones and one Gionee (which all Blu phones are), all of them were excellent:
Blu Life Play – was my work phone for over a year, my dad used it for a year after that. Dropped that phone so many times never skipped a beat. Just ordered another one for nostalgia sake.
Blu Vivo IV – excellent phone, I used it for 6 months and gave it to a coworker who still uses it today.
Gionee Elife E7 – one of the best camera phones I have ever used. Used it for about a year and then sold it.
