Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 specs revealed, could launch August 16th

It looks like August 16th is the date and Beijing is the place where we will see the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, so what about the details? Keep reading for more.

A Xiaomi device has shown up at TENAA with details and a design that reminds us a whole lot of the Redmi Note, only slimmer with a better design and higher specs. Could this be the long anticipated Xiaomi Redmi Note 2?

The design reminds us of the Xiaomi Mi4i, with a similar speaker placement , but with a camera and LED flash in the same position as older Xiaomi devices.

The front of the phone has a 5.5-inch 1080 display with narrower than usual bezels for a Redmi model phone. Beneath the display are red icons for home, menu and back.

From the TENAA docs, we see a 2.0Ghz processor will run the new Redmi phablet, likely a Mediatek MT6795, 2GB RAM, 16GB memory, SD memory card expansion and a 3020mAh battery. Cameras are 5 mega-pixel front and 13 mega-pixel rear, while MIUI is based on Android Lollipop.

Xiaomi bosses have posted that 16th August will be the launch date for the phone, but we are waiting on the official release details from the company.

What is your opinion on the Redmi Note 2? It all looks ok to us, although a larger battery might be more appreciated.

  Unless it’s a brand new SoC it’s the 6795 (Helios X10) because right now there is no such thing as a 6759. Most likely just a typing error.

      It would but it wouldn’t make sense at this price point for Xiaomi to do that, especially if they are going to release a 2nd Mi Note. The 6795 is more than powerful enough for the Note 2. It is the SoC powering several flagships such as MX5 and M9+.

        The only 2.0 Ghz that Qualcomm makes is the 810, I cant see them using that. So it’s either something new from Qualcomm or something from MTK.

        When it comes to Xiaomi you can never be sure about anything lol. They are one of the best at keeping their specs internal. 99% of the “leaks” that claim to be a Xiaomi are often not.

I honestly doubt the price of the note 2 will be 699 yuan if they are going to sell it at the same price as the previous one, especially if this phone has mt6795 chipset.

If Xiaomi goes back to Mediatek why not with a big bang like MT6755 alias Helio P10. It will come in 3. quarter of the year with 2GHz and Mali T860 with two cluster.

  The MT6755 seems like will be ready at early Q4, but first phones which contained it, will be out 1 month later than that best case, more likely 2 months or more later. Much later if Mediatek can’t prepare it in time. The MT6795 would be ready at Dec. 14 according to their roadmap, but first handsets with it released much later like April.
  So assuming an early Sept. release, the Redmi Note 2 can enjoy best performer in the class title through lets say 4 months.

It revealed little more than 3 weeks ago.
Assuming 999 yuan price tag, it will be the most powerful device in the class with MT6795.
It still on the heavier side for a plastic bodied phone (159g) and thinner side (8mm) according to TENAA. Also arguably on the uglier side with especially that frontal design among its competitors IMO. Though I have to say TENAA pics usually looks worse than actual device.

  In the end it is going to look like a typical Xiaomi device. Even as a Xiaomi fan I will admit most of their devices are very boring to look at (except the Mi4 imo). But their design language is one of the least creative.

      Yes it is like a Mi4 with an even better camera in a bigger size. It’s a very good phone. The Pro on the other hand is one of the worst uses of the 810, MIUI itself runs warm with the 810 its unbearable.

        It’s like a Mi4 on the inside. They share almost the same exact components:
        Processor – both use SD801 clocked at 2.5ghz
        RAM – both have 3GB
        ROM – both have 16/64
        Display – both are 1080p (Mi4 is a little crisper due to smaller screen)
        Camera – both use IMX 214 (Mi Note is a little better due to update optics/software)

        , I realize its a brand new design but if you took all branding off of it and showed it to Xiaomi fans they would be able to guess its a Xiaomi phone. It just has that Xiaomi look to it, hard to describe in words but all their phones have it.

        The frame is shaped differently. That is the unique part about the phone. Its shape. If you are talking about the front, I really can’t help you. There is not a lot you can change at the front except its shape, which is slightly changed on the Mi note. When we talk about design of the phone, we consider the overall design of the phone. 2/3 difference is a lot of difference. The other 1/3 is sort of fixed. You need a screen, front camera… There is not many ways you can change it that will benefit the design.

        Your so in love with it that your never going to see otherwise. It’s not worth the time to argue with someone like that. Look at the back of the Mi Note and the Mi4 side by side, forget about the curved glass you love so much. Look at them lying flat next to each other. Now turn them over and look at them from the front. There is very little besides your curve that truley differentiates them from one other. They both have that boring, white, drab, generic look to them. Like every other Xiaomi phone of this generation.

        You cannot assume that it will look the same at the back without the curve glass. After all, the curve glass is part of the design. Don’t forget that the frame is also shaped differently. If you are using the same logic, it is also possible to say Apple never changed their iphone design, which is not true because most people agree that the design changed every two year. Like I have said earlier, there is not a lot to change in front. And lastly, I never said anything about loving the phone.

        Apple didn’t change the design until the Iphone 5. If you took the logos off of an Iphone from 1-4, most people would say either it’s iphone or iphone clone. That is what is known as design language in this industry. The 5 and 6 have a very similar design just use different materials and sizes. All your focusing on is the curved back, your ignoring the rest of the design, the button placements the location of the speakers/usb (on the bottom like the Mi4) the colors used, the lack of any design (other than your curve) that really sets it apart. And the front of the phones are near identical. This is not knock on Xiaomi anyone who knows me, knows I am one of their biggest fans. But their design language is boring, even with the curve.

If someone said my phone was ugly to them or that the sound quality wasnt as good as another phone, I would make a few comments back and forth then move on.
