Iris recognition has been rumored for the ZTE Blade S6 as of last month, but a new incremental update has now brought the rumored feature to the Blade S6.
The software update, a small 25.40MB in size, brings what ZTE calls “Sky Eye” to the Blade S6, allowing you to use your retina to unlock the device by way of eye movement. Iris recognition has been rumored as an upcoming technology, but has yet to take off in most devices. Samsung’s Smart Pause and Smart Play mandate the use of your eye glances to either stop a YouTube video or start playback again, for example, but few manufacturers have taken to the idea (which is unfortunate).

Iris recognition may become a security alternative for users who don’t want to enter a PIN number or passcode to access their device and prevent other prying eyes from having the same access.
To get the update, ZTE says that you should have at least 30% battery before starting, clean the cache memory on the phone, and update via Wi-Fi instead of 3G/4G/LTE data. If this sounds good, go ahead and install the new update.
Blade S6 users, have you received the iris recognition update yet? If so, have you tried out the new feature? We’d love to hear from you.
