We have been hosting a poll asking if you would buy the OnePlus 2 now that it was all officially launched. After 1,283 votes and 177 comments the results are in!
The OnePlus 2 launched just a week ago and we have not only been surprised by the general feelings towards the phone but also the lack of interest it has generated.
Usually a phone launch generates a lot of traffic for the day of launch and following days. The Xiaomi Mi Note launch and Huawei Honor 7 launches both created very busy days at launch and for a few days after. The OnePlus 2 launch ranked as just a regular day in terms of traffic, but why?
Well we did know a lot about the OnePlus 2 before it launched. OnePlus themselves told us a little about the phone, then there were the TENAA leaks, and just hours before the launch conference real photos of the phone hit the web. This all helped to lower the excitement level.
Another reason were the specifications. We all knew from the start the OnePlus 2 would have an under clocked Snapdragon 810 chipset and to many this was the very definition of ‘settling’ the one thing OnePlus have often told us not to do.
As we learned the screen resolution was just 1080, and there would be just a 13 mega-pixel camera on board there was even less to get excited about (we’re not saying a 1080 display and 13 mega-pixel camera are bad, just that they are standard fair these days).
When OnePlus finally announced the full specifications many many fans were instantly upset with the lack of NFC, SD card, fast charging and to some extent the design (I actually have to admit the design is growing on me).
So what was the overall feeling from the GizChina community? Would you be buying the OnePlus 2 now that it has launched? According to our poll %53 of GizChina readers won’t buy the OnePlus 2 either due to the lack of NFC, Quick charge or SD card, or because there are other phones which offer more for the money.
%30 of GizChina readers are on the fence and say that they are waiting for the OnePlus 2 reviews to be posted before making a decision, but only %17 of readers say they will definitely be buying the phone.
We actually expect that even fewer GizChina readers will end up buying the OnePlus 2. With customers expected to wait for an invitation to arrive, and with phones from Xiaomi, Huawei and ZUK on the horizon we believe that many potential OP2 buyers will end up choosing an alternate device.
The OnePlus 2 will begin to ship to customers and resellers in China this week, and we will hopefully receive our review unit (which is not coming from OnePlus) very soon. Watch out for our full OnePlus 2 Review.
It doesn’t mean that Gizchina readers don’t like OnePlus 2, it is just that we want some cheaper Chinese phone, like $150-$200. 🙂
Very probably most Gizchina readers look for a cheaper device. If that is not the case, they would end up with an iPhone or Galaxy S6.
It must be the extreme right? And lol, since when is One Plus 2 a $700+++ device?
lol okay, we’re all too poor to buy $300 phones, I guess OPO has some kind of loyal following, large enough to keep them afloat already, and don’t need us.
if that’s how they want, then sure.
No, its’not about money. It’s about finding bargain. I bought many 100-150 usd phones from China. Because they are different, creative etc.
ugly button (oneplus) / vS / ugly bezels (elephone)… $289 win (vowney) ——- about oneplus2, I would still be in doubt if the cost equal… for a killer 2016 I consider devoid of technology. (Back to the Future)
just don’t hold your breath until the Vowney is out, because that could take a while.
and when it DOES get released, don’t hold your breath until you get software updates, which I’m almost sure will be practically nonexistent.
With all the problems Elephone has had I am not sure how much of a “win” the Vowney will be.
99.9% don’t release a new “flagship” every month and drop support for the old flagship at the same time. 99.9% dont have the quality issues that Elephone has had. 99.9% don’t have the shipping issues Elephone has had. Some who preordered the P7000 are still waiting for their phones. If you want to gamble with your money go for it, but I would be extremely cautious with that brand.
This is what i was saying in my above comment though. Despite the questionable design, retarded invite system and a couple of missing features….if my OPO is anything to go by the OP2 will provide a very good, fast, smooth and stable software experience and provide proper support for its customers. This alone puts them above 99% of Chinese manufacturers. Also worth noting…how many Chinese manufacturers give proper 4G band support like One Plus? And sell for a good price? I can name very few….
OP makes excellent phones and if you can secure an invite and you don’t mind the hideous design the OP2 is a fantastic deal. Is OP better than 99% of companies though? Not even close, they are not better (or worse) than any of the major Chinese companies like Lenovo, Xiaomi, Huawei, Meizu etc. All of those companies are in a separate class from the Doogees and Elephones. It’s really two separate industries: premium Chinese phones from the brands listed above and a few others. And budget Chinese phones which is all the rest. As for proper 4G support that depends largely on where you live. If you live in Asia like I do (Thailand) just about everphone released has proper 4G support. If you live in Europe/US it is tricky.
See I have to disagree. I have been pretty disappointed by the mi note and mi4i. The software experience of MIUI 6 has become so bloated and horrible since I last used it on MIUI V5. Especially on the mi4i. CM12 on my oneplus runs so much smoother it is unreal. Especially in screen reaction times and animation fluidity, multi touch gestures, apps like instagram and tinder and facebook, everything just smoother on the OPO. OPO is also on lollipop, the mi note is yet to receive. Xiaomi’s bug fixing is also questionable, and they often add more issues by adding more ‘features’ instead of fixing long standing bugs. Also xiaomi provides very limted FDD-LTE support compared to one plus, ok in your country you might be ok but what if you travel abroad? Oneplus supports 4 or 5 more bands. Meizu I love their phones, but i can tell you there is no way on earth that flyme is as stable as either CM12 or Oxygen OS. Huwaei, again some solid devices and a very average skinned android experience, same with lenovo. Lets not also forget One plus One had and still has the best battery of ANY phone, including the iPhone 6 plus, confirmed by Anandtech. Not trying to sound like a oneplus fanboy but I just think they deserve more credit for delivering a solid all round package. I agree though the OP2 design is awful.
MIUI isnt for everyone and personally for me I hate CM so that is just a subjective argument to begin with. All of the premium brands have a phone that doesnt work out as planned. (OP big brother OPPO has had plenty) but they are still premium brands compared to the likes of Elephone who have never had a good phone. You not liking their software doesn’t mean others don’t. I don’t know where your getting this best battery thing from. GSM Arena seems who tests these things doesn’t even have it close to their top 10:
As for bands I travel a lot for work. My Mi4 had support for every country I visited, if it wasnt LTE they had 3G support. And in many countries 3G is all you need because LTE is either poorly developed or incredibly expensive. It was never a big deal for me. For you it might be.
I see where you are coming from but when I was mentioning CM I was really taking about close to or stock android builds in general not just CM. It’s not really about weather you prefer stock or miui i’m talking about the actual performance. My Nexus 5 for example, blows the mi note out the water in terms of the smoothness of operation and is running a worse cpu, it is hard to explain until you use them side by side, like everything seems snappier on stock android and scrolling and animations are just smoother with less dropped frames across the board. A small example is how poor multi touch is implemented on MIUI V6 especially in the gallery. Also, small things like the swipe gesture in tinder is noticeably jerky with dropped frames on miui as is scrolling on a whole series of apps on mi4i which are smooth as anything on stock builds. The display on both my mi note and mi4i is not as precise as on my N5 or oneplus, both have less sway on UI elements when you move things from side to side quickly, showing the increased precision. Next to an iphone it is almost laughable how much less fluid and accurate MIUI feels but that is another story.
Don’t get me wrong Visually I love MIUI V6 I actually prefer it to stock which I think has become quite bland since android M but the performance is just not as good as stock builds of android due to what appears to be the fact MIUI is so resource heavy and not as optimized. It was not as noticeable to me until I used them side by side when it becomes obvious. Yeah agree OPPO suffers similar issues probably due to the weight of their UI skin and optimization issues. Again Oneplus performance is better due to the close to stock builds of android. Battery wise things may have changed with new devices but I was referring to these tests….
I also use the OPO and know how good the battery is, like it is basically impossible to drain it in a day. Know that 4G support thing is not an issue for some people but I have to give credit to oneplus for catering to more people and providing a more complete 4G experience by including more network support. Oneplus and oppo ship to more international countries though than companies like xiaomi and meizu so it is to be expected.
I hate Stock Android and anything that resembles it. Even in those tests though the OP isn’t the best. They also have a very limited selection of phones they tested. The Mi4 had just about the same battery life as the OPO, that’s not saying the OPO didn’t have great battery life it was just on par with most Chinese flagships. OP offers more bands because they are sold in more countries. OP is officially sold in the US and EU, the other brands are not. When they are sold there they will have those bands too.
hmmm, can’t speak for mi4 seems slightly above oneplus in this test but again depends on conditions of use…
In my tests my One plus crushes both my mi4i and mi note though, easily outlasts both. Yeah as I say not a huge fan of stock androids look either, but there is no denying that performance is known to be much better on properly optimized close to stock builds, in comparison to heavily skinned android versions, hence why we see most large manufacturers have lightened their skins over the last couple of years. Shame about xiaomi really had high hopes for miui 6 but performance is just not there for me, hard to use their phones now knowing that I will get a better experience and performance on others, even if it means sacrificing the nice looking UI of MIUI.
It should crush the Mi Note they use the same size battery (roughly) but the Note is using a larger display. Mi4i is all due to its horrible chip, the 615 kills both performance and battery life. As for MIUI it is more than fast enough for what I need it for, no complaints from me. We all use Android differently.
I’m an owner of MI4 and i always loved MIUI (i actually installed it on non Xiaomi phones too)
I’ve also hated the stock Android look of CM until the other day when my wife received her OPO.
the software is insane, waaayyy smoother than MIUI (my phone has the same hardware).
i had to change few things to make it look a little prettier (the all white notification icons are hard to understand)
but, hey…. that phone with that rom is something different. i have to admit that!
but you pay 13mpx exceeded … $450, today op2 surely a fad ?
…i think mx5 pro version with 41mpx Lumia 1020 rear and 13mpx front camera… maybe $480 …. and Exynos 7420 SoC ?
What does MP have to do with price?
lol, Really?
-Exynos 7420 or SD810 ?
-L1020 rear camera or omnivision 13mpx op2 ?
-Omnivision Front 13mpx or 2mpx op2 ?
-display 2k or 1080p opo2 ?
-4100mah or 3300mha op2 ?
maybe op2 frozen in time like that fly ? no ? $450 for …. ?
pic by my Lumia 1020. since 2013.
You didn’t answer my question, what does MP count have to do with price? MP count doesn’t equal a better or higher quality camera. The Iphone 6 has an 8mp sensor, it is one of the best camera phones available. And the OP2 isn’t $450….
just iphone ? you have other example ? try…. and find out for yourself about price lens camera.
-and iphone is not top camera…. have 8mpx equipped with good imx220.
-nokia > galaxy > ( iphone, letv imx230 , mx5 imx220 )….
Lol you have no clue what you are talking about if you think the Iphone doesn’t have a god camera. MP means very little to how good a camera is. Optics and software mean a lot more. The Vivo Xshot last year had a 13mp sensor but took better pictures than phones with 20mp.
what you think about oneplus3 with still 13mpx (2017) ?
I won’t think anything till we test it out. MP count means very little to how good a camera is or isn’t. I will care more about what optics they are using, and what technology the sensor itself has built into it. Like I said Apple has been using an 8mp sensor for years and is widely regarded as one of the standards for great pictures. The MP are only small part of great pictures.
yes Apple and just Apple. nowadays indeed the chinese phone can make the 8mpx Apple camera weak.
-Your 8mpx limit, only to the apple?
I am confused what you are asking. Anybody who take the time to really discover what a sensor can do and pairs it with excellent optics and excellent software can make an 8mp camera take amazing pictures. That’s what Apple has done.
