Wileyfox is a brand new smartphone brand based in the UK, and they’re looking to enter the competitive smartphone with a big bang. Their two mid-rangers, the Swift and Storm, will have mid-range specs and low prices, but what Wileyfox hopes will differentiate their budget devices from others (like the Moto G) is that both the Swift and the Storm will come running Cyanogen OS 12.1 out of the box, a huge selling point for tech geeks.
The Wileyfox Swift is the cheaper of the two, and comes with decent enough specs. The processing package is a cheap and cheerful quad core Snapdragon 410, backed up with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 5-inch 720p display, a 13MP Sony rear camera, a removable 2500mAh battery and a sleek looking design highlighted with orange accents. It’ll be priced at £129, which equals to about $199. Decent enough to compete with other low-end devices like the new Moto G and the Redmi 2 Enhanced.
Gizchina News of the week
The Storm is the obviously more powerful of the two. It comes with the problem ridden Snapdragon 615 processor, along with a healthy 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display, an unremovable 2500mAh battery and a powerful 20MP rear camera also supplied by Sony. The design language is similar to the swift, but the Storm will a cost much more at £199, or $307. That’s close to Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 territory, and much more expensive than similar phones like the Xiaomi Mi4i.
Both devices will have Cyanogen OS 12.1 based on Lollipop out of the box, both have support for 4G LTE across all European providers and they both also have expandable storage. Neither one comes with NFC, so that’s something to keep in mind. Both phones will only be available for purchase online right now, though the Swift will only ship in September while the Storm in October. What do you think about the Wileyfox devices? Don’t see any reason to go for any of these devices, as there are better specced , more attractive options at each price point…not impressed! 🙂
